Debunked: Why is Trump accusing Starmer of election interference? The Independent
Transcript
00:00Donald Trump has accused Sir Keir Starmer of election interference but is there
00:05any truth to Trump's claim? Well here's everything you need to know. The central
00:09two questions are here. Are Labour sending members of their staff out to
00:14campaign with Kamala Harris? And the second, is Labour funding these trips
00:18out to the US? Because that legitimately would count as foreign campaign
00:23donations. Trump's campaign have filed a complaint with the Federal Election
00:29Commission. He's alleging illegal foreign campaign donations and claiming that
00:33Labour officials are going to meet Harris's officials. So is this true? Well
00:38yes and no. This is what Trump cited as the problem. A now deleted LinkedIn post
00:44from the Labour Party's head of operations who wrote that nearly a
00:47hundred current and former Labour Party staff would be travelling to the US to
00:53help elect Miss Harris. She posted on social media that she had ten spots
00:58available for anyone willing to travel to North Carolina. Adding that we will
01:02sort your housing while you're out there. But Labour have said that these people
01:07were volunteering in their own spare time and off their own dime. Well it's up
01:11to private individuals to choose how they use their own time and their own
01:16money. If people want to take holiday and go and campaign in another country
01:20that's up to them. But none of this was organised by the Labour Party itself. It's
01:24individuals. Also what about Nigel Farage campaigning next to Trump when he was an
01:29elected MP? Or the fact that Keir Starmer has met with Donald Trump in the last
01:34few weeks and had dinner with him. What do you think about this situation? Let us
01:39know in the comments below.
