Debunked: Trump says Harris opening borders to illegal votersThe Independent
Transcript
00:00There is no evidence that the Biden-Harris administration
00:02are allowing migrants to flow into the U.S. illegally and to vote
00:06in the hope of securing a Democrat win.
00:09We only want U.S. citizens to vote in U.S. elections.
00:12But there are some Democrats who don't want to do that.
00:14They want to turn these people into voters.
00:17I believe now that that's why they're allowing these people to come in.
00:20People that don't speak our language, they're signing them up to vote
00:24and it could very well affect the next election
00:26and I believe that's why they're doing it.
00:28Donald Trump and other Republican voting A-listers have been making this claim
00:32and it's all over the internet.
00:34But this isn't the first time that Trump has falsely accused Joe Biden of election fraud.
00:39Remember 2020?
00:41This is a fraud on the American public.
00:44We were getting ready to win this election.
00:47Frankly, we did win this election.
00:50And he also accused Hillary Clinton of this in 2016.
00:54They're letting people pour into the country so they can go and vote.
00:58I want to hurry up and fast track them so they can go ahead and be able to vote for the election.
01:02It's a disgrace.
01:03So where did this conspiracy theory come from this time round?
01:07Well, some Democrats opposed a Republican bill requiring proof of citizenship to vote.
01:13They argued that it creates unnecessary administrative hurdles
01:16that could prevent legitimate voters from voting.
01:20Illegal immigrants and non-citizens can't register to vote anyway.
01:24Nonetheless, this triggered the false claims.
01:27But in reality, non-citizen voting is illegal and remains rare
01:31because the penalty is so severe.
01:34Fines, imprisonment and deportation.
