00:00Nightly greetings, one and all, William Theo here, homegrown and happy to bring you PTV
00:09News Now.
00:10And we kick off tonight's top stories with, Quad Committee Chairperson, Surigal Representative
00:16Robert Ace Barbers, on the eve of his ninth panel hearing tomorrow, has a new interesting
00:22idea to carry on with his committee's probe and a parallel inquiry to be launched by the
00:28Senate shortly, a joint investigation into the EG case, illegal drugs and illegal pogos
00:34and their linkages.
00:35Barbers said a unified probe benefits both House investigations with lesser time entailed
00:42and resources extended, especially in scheduling of resource persons and in the drafting or
00:48composition of appropriate legislation to address the pitfalls of an aggressive campaign
00:54versus illegal drugs that short circuits the criminal justice system and discriminates
01:00against the thousands of poor and indigent users being deprived of their chances to reform
01:05and rehabilitate themselves.
01:07Still a number of Barbers' colleagues in the Quad Committee expressed doubts and pushback
01:13against the idea of a joint probe, especially if Senators De La Rosa and Goh do not recuse
01:19themselves and their closeness to the former president and their recent pronouncements
01:24attacking resource persons like Kerwin Espinosa and Rohingya Garma, a handpicked Duterte former
01:31Davao chief of police and PCSO chairperson.
01:35Barbers confirmed having extended an invite to ex-president Rodrigo Duterte to attend
01:41tomorrow's ninth Quad Com hearing and assured he would be afforded the due courtesy he deserves.
01:49Meanwhile, between 160 to 165 million registered voters in all 50 states of the Union are expected
01:58to cast their ballots for the November 5 presidential elections, but then the polls will be decided
02:05by seven key swing or battleground states to include the Sun Belt states of Georgia,
02:10North Carolina, Nevada and Arizona, the latter a traditional red or Republican state.
02:17U.S. President Joe Biden flipped in 2020, but is trending GOP this year as the polls show.
02:23VOA's Dora McClure has the story.
02:28Arizona, home to more than seven million people, historically leans towards Republicans.
02:34Over the past 76 years, only three Democratic presidential candidates have won the southwestern state.
02:42Joe Biden pulled off a narrow victory in 2020 and this election year, the race is tight again.
02:48I think kind of underscores kind of this independent nature of Arizona.
02:52You know, we've kind of it's a strongly unaffiliated, but also kind of libertarian.
02:59Libertarians believe that liberty is the most important political value and that it can be achieved by limiting government power.
03:07Predicting their vote becomes very challenging because how they vote in one election doesn't necessarily mean they're going to vote in the next election.
03:15And they're notoriously ticket splitters. Right. So they vote differently.
03:20The electorate in Arizona is changing, including a growing Hispanic population that is increasingly coming of age to vote for this election.
03:30Those Gen Z voters, those under the age of 30, are now mirroring the population in general of Arizona, and that's occurring for the first time.
03:40And so there is definitely a trend among older Latino voters, perhaps of not being distinctly or primarily Democrat.
03:50Younger voters tend to be. The other major change in voting patterns is the large number of people, particularly from California, who are moving to Arizona.
04:00They tend to be a more Democratic or liberal vote that has kind of come in and permeate some of our particularly our larger metropolitan areas.
04:10Maricopa County is home to the state capital of Phoenix and has more than half of Arizona's total population.
04:17Whoever wins Maricopa usually wins the state.
04:21It's that process where we have these big cities that are now coming to dominate state level politics.
04:26Riley says the issues that Arizonans care most about are the economy, reproductive rights and immigration.
04:33Two of those issues are on the November ballot, including Proposition 139, which would codify a woman's right to abortion in Arizona and could drive more people to the polls.
04:45It could have a pretty significant impact.
04:47So in terms of states where we've seen this happen in the past, we have seen a bump in voters showing up.
04:54Proposition 314 would make illegally crossing the Arizona-Mexico border a state crime in addition to a federal crime.
05:03One issue could drive more liberal voters to the polls, while the other could energize more conservative voters.
05:10We might see some split ticking there, right, that they maybe feel strongly on immigration and the border issue and would vote for one candidate there,
05:18but also feel strongly about reproductive rights and vote differently there.
05:25Which means some Arizonans could vote to protect abortion rights, then split on voting for either former President Donald Trump or for Vice President Kamala Harris.

05:42At this point, allow me to shift to PTV Studios' Baguio City for what's hot and happening in the Cordilleras. Audrey?
05:50Good evening, Filipinas. This is the Department of Education Cordillera in our region.
05:56Today, we will present the performance of the International Student Assessment Program, WINO-PISA.
06:05This year, we will present the performance of the International Student Assessment Program, WINO-PISA.
06:14This program was established in 1978 in newly-created positions.
06:20The program was established by the International Student Assessment Program, Project Hybrid Learning Using Technology for Equity and Quality.

06:37This program was established by the International Student Assessment Program, Project Hybrid Learning Using Technology for Equity and Quality.
06:43The Cordillera was included in the NCR 4A, which had a good score on the PISA.
06:57This was also confirmed by the National Achievement Test, where the CAR-OLE is at the top with the NCR at 4A.
07:10Even though our resources are not enough.
07:17On the other hand, the Scout Officials for a Day was held in Baguio City Hall.
07:23Here, officials and congressmen were invited to attend the event.
07:30In celebration of Philippine Scout Month, 50 Philippine Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts attended the Scout Officials for a Day event in Baguio City Hall.
07:42Under the Sashing of Scout Officials, parents and officials were invited to attend the event.
07:48Officials were also invited to attend the event.
07:54Vishayne Edas, a student at Pines City National High School, was also invited to attend the event.
08:02I think this will be the chance for me to see the situation of our city.
08:08We can tell our fellow students and fellow citizens what is really happening in our city.
08:15Hopefully, my attendance today will be meaningful.
08:20This is so memorable in my life.
08:22As you take your seats today, remember that leadership is not only about holding a title or position.
08:30It is all about disposition.
08:34Leadership is about influence.
08:37People will follow you if they believe in you.
08:41And what will make them believe in you?
08:43It's all about competence and character.
08:48For more information, please visit PTV Cordillera and Audrey Villena in Bagarabi.
