00:00A few weeks back, OPPO flew me to London to their AI briefing where they reiterated their
00:13commitment to AI.
00:14At this event, they also announced that they were going to put AI in all of their product
00:19lines.
00:20This is the first of those AI phones.

00:27This is our first look at the OPPO Reno 12 Pro.
00:57It's a pretty steady phone, you guys, the OPPO Reno 12 Pro in the flesh.
01:26So before we take a closer look at this phone, I just, I really have to say, this is a very
01:31thin box.
01:32We're not seeing a power brick, we're not seeing a jelly case.
01:35I'm not sure.
01:37I don't really like that, but I do like how the phone looks and feels.
01:42This is the Nebula Silver device, and honestly, that ribbon effect that runs through the back
01:48of this phone just looks stunning.
01:50I audibly gasped as I was unboxing this.
01:56And despite that look, that is a smooth matte black, there are hints of purple if you hold
02:01it up to the light just right.
02:03There are two other colors and they have different looks.
02:05You also get a sunset gold and a space brown, but they have a different two-tone look.
02:09I think this particular look is my favorite though.
02:11Aside from that eye-catching back, there are really nice details on this phone.
02:15Like for example, this texture surrounding the camera module.
02:19And then there's something new going on with this phone's screen.
02:21It sort of slightly wraps around on all the edges, so it technically feels like it's all
02:27screen.
02:28There are those slight bezels on the edge, but that's basically where the screen curves
02:33and wraps around, and it feels very seamless.
02:37Now, would I absolutely love the screen to wrap around up until those bezels?
02:42Yes, but all in all, I like this look.
02:45I've previously said that I am team curved screen, but this effect gives you functionalities
02:51of a flat screen, but the feel of a curved screen.
02:55I like it.
02:56Now, if you're worried about what Oppo is calling their infinite view screen, on the
03:00Reno 12 Pro, this is also Gorilla Glass Victus 2, so that should be quite strong.
03:07In general, this feels like a pretty premium device.
03:10On the right, you have a volume rocker and a power button.
03:13At the bottom, speakers, USB-C port.
03:16At the bottom, you get a dual SIM tray.
03:19You get a clean other side, and up top, you get speakers, and that's an IR blaster.
03:26Okay, so this is the exciting part.
03:28This phone has generative AI capabilities, and that means you're getting more than that
03:33AI photo eraser.
03:34So, let me tell you that AI eraser is fun, and I have a whole video about it.
03:38I'll link it up here and down below, but anyway, I digress.
03:40The AI features on this phone is not limited to photo editing, and you do get the photo
03:45editing and more.
03:46You also get a host of productivity AI features, like you have AI recording summary, which
03:50allows your phone to summarize audio recordings.
03:54We'll try that.
03:55Or you even get an AI writer, which will help you craft social media posts.
04:01Let's go and try those features.
04:02First of all, I'm gonna record everything I'm gonna say on the phone right now, and
04:07this is something we're gonna test out later as something to do with AI.
04:10But anyway, I guess we're seeing a slew of AI features that look very similar to what
04:17the Samsung flagships announced a little while back.
04:21And again, that's a big deal because this isn't a flagship device.
04:25First off, let's try out AI eraser 2.0.
04:27I've tried out AI eraser 1.0, and let me tell you, it was pretty good.
04:33Now, this, however, is done on the cloud, so that just means you're gonna need internet
04:38to use this feature.
04:39Let's try it.
04:41First of all, let's try this.
04:42I don't have group shots on this phone yet, but let's see.
04:46Let's try to erase the background.
04:49It's actually quite impressive because it's really easy.
04:53Now, that is proof it's AI erase because it's basically generated something else in the
04:57background.
04:58And if that happens, I just sort of do it again till I get the right thing generated.
05:05Finally, so you see the difference.
05:10Obviously, we're gonna need to try that feature more, but you guys get the idea.
05:14Now, that's not the only AI photo feature that Oppo will have on this phone.
05:19When shooting selfies with front-facing cameras, you'll be able to edit with AI up to 10 people's
05:25faces.
05:26Now, AI eraser is not the only AI photo feature that Oppo will have on this phone.
05:31They have AI clear face, which is basically a feature that allows you to edit each face
05:36in a selfie.
05:37It has to be shot with a front-facing camera, and it has to be a group shot.
05:40This feature will let you unblur your face in the group pic or enhance details on your
05:46face.
05:47There's also AI best face, which basically means that when taking a group shot, you can
05:51edit each specific face so that you don't have people, like, with closed eyes in the
05:56group photo and stuff like that.
05:58Think of it as something similar to Pixel's best take feature.
06:01Now, both of these features are not available yet, but it's coming to your phone via an
06:06update in Q3.
06:08Another fun thing is there is an AI studio app on here, and this basically generates
06:15different avatars with your photo, and it's quite amusing.
06:21Now, moving on from the AI photo features, there are also AI productivity features, like,
06:45For example, if I go on Facebook and I decide I want to write a post, I can just pull up
06:52the AI writer, input certain things, like, new phone AI, and then I want this to be humorous
07:03emoji.
07:04No, humorous.
07:05Let's see.
07:06And now, look at this.
07:11I have something to post.
07:13A post written by AI on a phone that has AI about a phone with AI.
07:20That's so meta, and also that's the fastest social media caption I've ever written in
07:24my, well, I've ever had written in my life.
07:28Now, the reason that I was recording this whole part of the video is I wanted to try
07:35another AI feature on this phone.
07:38Once I save this recording, you can just tap summarize, agree and continue, and you
07:45also get a couple of languages on here, so I'm just going to say English.

09:16First of all, this phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 energy chip.
09:20And this chip is a collaboration between MediaTek and Oppo to make this phone power efficient.
09:25It has a 5,000 milliamp hour battery and 80 watt wired fast charging.
09:30If we know anything about Oppo's VOOC fast charging, we know that it's going to be fast.
09:34So I like that.
09:35Of course, it's also already future-proof.
09:37This has 5G capabilities.
09:38But specifically on the camera front, you get a 50 megapixel main shooter with a Sony
09:43sensor and you have OIS, which should be great for people who'd want to vlog with this phone.
09:49You have another 50 megapixel camera on the back.
09:52And this time it's a telephoto camera with a Samsung sensor.
09:55And this is great for 2x optical zoom shots and 20x hybrid zoom shots.
10:03You're also getting a 112 degree wide camera on the back here.
10:07And this is also powered by a Sony sensor.
10:10On video with these rear cameras, you can shoot 4K 30fps and you can go from 1x up until
10:1610x.
10:17On 1080p, you can go 60 or 30fps.
10:20And on 30fps, you can go from wide 1x up until 10x.
10:25Aside from OIS, you also get an ultra steady mode on 1080p 60fps.
10:31And I like this.
10:32You also get an improved 50 megapixel selfie shooter.
10:35Now this selfie shooter has autofocus and you can go from wide 1x to 2x.
10:40And on portrait, you can also do wide.
10:42On video, the selfie camera can also shoot in 4K 30fps with wide 1x and 2x.
10:49And it also does 1080p 30 and 60fps.
10:53Of course, you also get very specific beauty modes on the selfie camera.
10:57But remember, the beauty modes are fun to retouch your photos.

12:03First of all, the OPPO Reno product line had always released capable devices, a good mix
12:07of powerful features for that less than flagship price tag.
12:11Adding in those generative AI features that you'd usually only find in flagship devices
12:17would make this a compelling phone to look at for users, especially if they're wanting
12:21to check out those AI features but not wanting to shell out big bucks for it.
12:25Now, that being said, of course I'd need more time with this device to fully check
12:29it out.
