00:00Hey what's up, MKBHD here, and we finally have them, two of maybe the most hyped devices
00:10of the entire year in their real retail boxes, the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro.
00:17And right off the bat, you can see these new smaller boxes, which you already know what
00:20that means, but let's just get started with the Pixel 6 here, the smaller one.
00:24So you've got these little plastic tabs on the sides of this recycled cardboard box.
00:29You pass those, flip it over, and right up at the top, there you have it.
00:33This is the kind of coral Pixel 6, looking exactly how we've seen it in all these materials
00:39and on websites and in teasers for the past six months or however long it's been.
00:43This is it.
00:44Flat display up front, camera visor on the back, with two different tones, two different
00:49color oranges on this design.
00:52But with the rest of the box, as you can see, if we get into that, you get a USB type C
00:55cable and you have a USB-A adapter along with some paperwork.
00:59And there is a SIM card removal tool over here also.
01:02But yeah, as you can tell, there is no charging brick in the box.
01:06But now we know, this phone will start at $599 for 128 gigs.
01:12Now I've got a lot of thoughts on this, but hang on to that for a quick second.
01:15Let's take a look at also the slightly larger phone in the slightly larger box, again with
01:19tabs on the back.
01:20And I kind of like this.
01:21We're not really needing to use a knife as often anymore with unboxings.
01:25But then again, up top here, we have the stormy black Pixel 6 Pro, looking like an evolved
01:32Nexus 6P for those of you who remember that phone, shout out to you.
01:36And if you look closely, you can also see it is actually technically also dual tone.
01:41The top gray is a little bit lighter than the bottom gray.
01:44But this phone, this phone will also start at 128 gigs of storage and it's at $899.
01:51So $599 and $899 for these two phones.
01:54My first, my reaction when I first saw these prices was like, oh wow, that's a lot better
01:58than I expected.
01:59$599 for the Pixel 6, that just feels like a really good deal.
02:04That was just my gut.
02:05But then my second thought was, okay, now there is $300 of difference in price between
02:12these two phones.
02:13And there's not a whole ton of difference between them physically.
02:17It kind of makes the 6 Pro seem like maybe a little bit of a tough sell.
02:21But anyway, for this video, I'm not allowed to share any new software features or any
02:26sample photos yet, or really anything conclusive yet until my full review, which is pretty
02:32annoying and quite frankly, a bit of a red flag.
02:35But for this video, what I can show you for those considering pre-ordering is everything
02:40that is now real about these phones and confirmed and all the differences between them and my
02:45reactions to that.
02:46So these phones both have similar specs, both have the new Tensor chip we've talked so much
02:50about and the new Titan M2 security chip.
02:53They both start at 128 gigs of storage, although the 6 Pro can go up to half a terabyte while
02:59the smaller 6 goes up to 256 and the 6 Pro does have more RAM.
03:03It has 12 gigs of RAM while there's 8 gigs in the smaller phone.
03:07But really the biggest difference between them is the size and that screen on the front.
03:11And it's not even that huge of a difference.
03:13They're both pretty huge.
03:14But you can see here, Pixel 6 has a 6.4 inch flat 90 Hertz 1080p OLED display, like I said,
03:23already a pretty big screen.
03:24But then the 6 Pro has a 6.7 inch 120 Hertz 1440p LTPO display that's slightly curved
03:34around the edges.
03:35So this one can modulate up and down from as little as 10 Hertz all the way up to 120.
03:41That's the benefit of that LTPO technology.
03:43And it also has a slightly smaller chin and some smaller side bezels too.
03:47Some people may prefer this.
03:48It does look a bit more premium.
03:50Either way, these are the biggest pixels ever and they do now much more resemble the higher
03:54end phones out there.
03:56You know, they've got the hole punch camera up top for the selfies and the fingerprint
04:00reader underneath the glass on the lower third.
04:02But then a slightly bigger phone also does mean slightly more room on the inside to take
04:05advantage of, which means the bigger one does have more room inside for a bigger battery.
04:104,600 mAh on the Pixel 6, 5,000 mAh on the 6 Pro.
04:15So those are both pretty good numbers on paper.
04:18And the bigger one also does get an extra camera inside.
04:21So in this camera visor, that's what I'm calling it, they share this new 50 megapixel larger
04:26primary camera and the same ultra wide.
04:29But the 6 Pro also has a folded 4x optical zoom lens for those telephoto shots.
04:34I am very interested in testing this whole new camera system now that they've finally,
04:39finally upgraded so much of this hardware.
04:42And there's some big promises made about both photos and videos that could be really cool.
04:46But again, not allowed to show that yet.
04:48So we'll just have to wait and see.
04:50Definitely get subscribed so you do see that early.
04:52But also the last little thing, the difference is just the rails on the side of the phone.
04:56On the Pixel 6, it's matte black and they're made of aluminum, while the Pixel 6 Pro has
05:01a slightly heavier, technically more durable, glossy stainless steel.
05:05It is pretty dark stainless steel though, not like the lighter colors on the Pro iPhones
05:09that show a lot of fingerprints.
05:11But all that being said, I honestly think I prefer the look and feel of the Pixel 6
05:17overall.
05:18And that's as someone who doesn't plan on putting a case on this phone.
05:21Usually there's a difference between seeing a render of a phone, like an image on some
05:26website on a screen or something, and then actually getting it out the box and holding
05:31it and looking at it.
05:33Usually I like it more once I hold it in real life.
05:37And this is another one of those designs that looks kind of strange, at least very
05:41unique on paper or on your screen.
05:44And then once you start using it, pretty quickly you get used to it.
05:47But I think their goal with this phone is to look unique, like to not look like any
05:53other phone.
05:54We've all seen the rounded camera bump in the corner of the phone.
05:58And if their goal was to stand out and not do that, and really establish like a Pixel
06:04design, then I think they've done that.
06:06And the funny thing is, once you start using a phone with this full width visor, it actually
06:12first of all acts as a place to rest your finger, if you hold the phone like this,
06:16the way I do.
06:17And also it won't rock nearly as much.
06:20Actually it won't rock at all back and forth on a table.
06:22So that's a nice bonus.
06:23But I will say it has also already started gathering dust in the very corners at this
06:2990 degree angle.
06:31And that's going to be incredibly annoying and difficult to clean, no doubt.
06:36The buttons on the side of this phone, very clicky.
06:38They're in the opposite order though than pretty much every other phone that puts the
06:42power and volume on the same side.
06:45I'll probably get used to this though.
06:46But there's also actually a little indentation, if you can see it here, a little notch in
06:51between the power and volume buttons.
06:54And that actually makes the buttons feel like they travel more.
06:57You can feel the depth of the button a bit more as you're clicking them.
07:00And this indent is nowhere else on the phone.
07:02So it's a pretty neat touch.
07:04And the 6 Pro also interrupts the stainless steel rails at the top for a matte black
07:08cutout, which I believe should be for the millimeter wave 5G antennas that the smaller
07:13Pixel 6 does not have.
07:15You know what I do miss though?
07:16The Pixels used to always do those accent colored power buttons.
07:20This one's just black on black.
07:21I like those accent power buttons.
07:23R.I.P.
07:24But yeah, that about covers it as far as differences between these two phones as of right now.
07:28Of course, make sure you get subscribed to see the full review when that does come out
07:32of these.
07:33Essentially, what you're looking at is more screen, more battery, more camera, and more
07:38RAM on the bigger phone.
07:40But yeah, from that, pretty much everything else is the same as far as specs, which kind
07:44of makes the Pixel 6 look like a much better deal.
07:47You know, they have the same chip inside, the Tensor chip, of course.
07:51They both have 30 watt wired charging.
07:53They both have wireless charging.
07:55They share the same primary and ultra wide camera.
07:58Like they're very similar.
07:59Oh, I almost forgot.
08:01The ultra wide selfie camera is back.
08:05That's pretty sweet.
08:06I was missing that in the previous Pixel.
08:08Happy it's back.
08:09But yeah, you know, they both have Android 12, a lot of the same features.
08:13It's just going to be a matter of like, do you want a little bit of that extra for the
08:166 Pro?
08:17Oh, and of course, they're both promised five years of security updates, which is awesome
08:22for an Android phone.
08:23Good looks for the Pixel.
08:24But yeah, I'm going to be off to testing these phones, Android 12, Material U, all of the
08:29new software features and the things that make a Pixel a Pixel, which I'm really excited
08:34about.
08:35But let me know what you want to see in the full review.
08:36Let me know in the comments below.
08:38Either way, that's been it.
08:40Moving right along.
08:41It's Tech-tober.
08:42There's more coming.
08:43Catch you in the next one.
08:44Peace.
