00:07This is part of the celebration of the anniversary of the late gulf landings in Palo, Leyte.

00:12That is the breaking news of Mela Lismoras of PTV.

00:30The celebration of the 80th anniversary of the late gulf landings in Palo, Leyte yesterday became significant.

00:42This gathering is historical because it was the sign of the independence of the Philippines

00:48from the hands of the Japanese during World War II.

00:51In a reenactment, the calvary carried out by our war veterans was added to the gathering.

01:01The actual event was also held here on October 20, 1944

01:09when US General Douglas MacArthur fulfilled his promise to the Philippines

01:15that I shall return with the so-called allied forces to help the country be free.

01:22This is the voice of freedom, General MacArthur speaking.

01:27People of the Philippines, I have returned.

01:31On behalf of President Ferdinand R. Marquez, Jr.,

01:34Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Jr. led the celebration.

01:39On his behalf, Teodoro honored our war veterans who fought for the freedom we are facing today.

01:48He called for everyone to unite in maintaining peace and order in the country

01:55in the midst of various challenges today.

01:58Today is a day of remembrance.

02:03The freedom we are facing today was not just given.

02:11It was fought for.

02:14The blood, sweat, and tears of our ancestors were shed.

02:21Fellow countrymen, to our veterans and to every Filipino, their fight is our fight.

02:33House Speaker Martin Romualdez and other government officials also joined the gathering.

02:39They were also joined by people from various countries.

02:42In his message, House Speaker Romualdez recognized the unity and assistance of various countries

02:49that he hopes will remain and will continue to flourish.

02:53We commend the solidarity of the nations of Australia, Japan, the United States,

03:01in our shared aspirations for a secure and peaceful region.

03:08Your presence today is a testament of how far we have come

03:14in terms of promoting and protecting our respective national interests.

03:20Aside from this, an exhibit was also opened in the province by Speaker Romualdez.

03:26Pictures and trivia about the little gulf landings were also included as part of the occasion.

03:34Since then until now, the pride of the Filipinos has not wavered and has been established in history.
