00:00After four years, a mother and her son, Bilanggo, met again in Metro Manila District Jail.
00:09Aside from reconciliation, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology also hopes to bring a Project Balik-Bisita Monitoring.
00:18This is the center of the news, Gav Villegas.
00:22Let's just call her Mother Josephine.
00:26Her son has not been released for four years and we will just hide his name, Steve.
00:31Steve was jailed in Annex 2 of Metro Manila District Jail in Taguig City.
00:36Mother Josephine is already old and this is her main reason for the loss of a chance to have a beloved child.
00:42Aside from the hardship in life, she is just hoping for her hard-earned income as a housewife.
00:48From around Taguig City, the news team accompanied the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology
00:53to follow Mother Josephine to their home in Quezon City.
00:56This is probably what a mother is hoping for, that they will be able to have a child.
01:00Mother, how are you? Will you be able to visit your son, my brother?
01:06I'm excited because we haven't seen each other for a long time.
01:10It's been four years. I'm hugging him because I miss him.
01:16I just want to know if he will be released, if he's okay inside.
01:24I really want to see him.
01:26After a few moments, we were able to get a glimpse of him.
01:30Mother Josephine did not hesitate.
01:32Her dream of seeing her son again came true.
01:36Where are you going?
01:39Where are you going?
01:41The distance and the time that they spent together was painful.
01:46I'm okay here.
01:48You're okay?
01:49Yes, I'm taking care of the personnel here.
01:51Be good to them.
01:54You know that.
01:56Don't be like this in the house. Be good.
02:00Don't cry.
02:01My baby.
02:04Don't cry.
02:06This is the outcome of the MMDJ Annex 2 Project Visit and Monitoring.
02:11Our countrymen sometimes make mistakes.
02:13According to Jail Senior Inspector J.M. Sabeniano,
02:16family is the most important part of the program.
02:18Usually, our PDLs, after they are released,
02:22are not accepted by the wife or the child.
02:26Sometimes, this is the trigger that brings them back to our prison.
02:31According to Jail Warden Sabeniano,
02:33the program started last year
02:35and 27 PDLs are expected to see their children again in the coming months.
02:41As we can see,
02:42the number of PDLs that are not accepted by the family is quite high.
02:46First of all,
02:48the reason is that the family members who can visit
02:51are also the breadwinners.
02:53So, no work, no pay.
02:55That's why we, the BJMP officers,
02:59we are the ones who agree with them
03:01so that they can reduce their expenses.
03:04And on top of that,
03:06we are also helping them so that they can have a place to live in our prison.
03:11The warden also believes that this will bring freedom to people
03:16who can be helped by visiting or just by saying hello
03:20so that they can feel, as those who have made mistakes,
03:23the warm love of a family.
03:25This will help in the rehabilitation of PDLs.
03:28Aside from the instant reunion,
03:30there are also contests for those who want to join like Steve.
03:34These are just a few of the activities of the District Jail
03:37as part of the National Correctional Consciousness Week.
03:40For what you did,
03:42I can't do that anymore.
03:44But my son is here.
03:46You are kind.
03:48You are also kind to him.
03:50I am very thankful
03:54because you are a good person.
03:58I am also very thankful to MMDJ Annex II,
04:01especially to Warden Nga.
04:04They are the ones who protected me here.
04:08They are my second parents.
04:10They gave me their trust.
04:13It's good to be together.
04:15No hassle is happening.
04:18They will teach you the right way.
04:20Inside the prison,
04:22the persons deprived of liberty will be given a chance
04:25to improve themselves and to start a new life.
04:29Those like Josephine and Steve are hoping
04:32that the day will come
04:34when they will be able to celebrate Christmas as a family
04:37outside the prison.
