00:00Alright guys, so I've been getting questions about the Galaxy A54.
00:04Matt, would you buy this phone, this mid-range phone?
00:06And objectively, it's a decent phone.
00:08We've done some comparisons and I think Samsung has fixed like one main issue I had,
00:13but there's like small little things that I don't like.
00:16But objectively, the phone, it is a pretty decent phone.
00:19I think it's a little bit expensive, you know, for this $400 price point.
00:22And you guys already know where I'm going with this.
00:24I personally wouldn't buy the phone because there's just much better older flagship options.
00:29And it pretty much will beat this phone in pretty much all categories for the most part.
00:34So, Samsung is not officially selling this phone in the United States,
00:39but they're selling the A35, but they're not selling the A55.
00:42You can get it on Amazon and eBay like I did, but they're not officially selling it.
00:48It won't be on carriers this year and stuff like that.
00:50The reason is because Samsung knows that this phone doesn't make any sense in the United States
00:55because you can get a Galaxy S23 or an S23 FE, or if you wanted something bigger,
01:02I think this is its biggest competition, the S22 Plus.
01:06And this phone is so good.
01:08Hold on, let me unlock it.
01:09This phone is so good, it's ridiculous, guys.
01:12If you can get this, you can get this in the used refurbished marketplace for like $340 bucks.
01:18And it is very, very good.
01:20And it's going to be even better next month because it's going to be getting the Galaxy AI
01:24features as well too.
01:26So, there's a lot going on here, but let's go ahead and jump into some of my reasons why.
01:31I wanted to do this with the older A series phone.
01:34This is the A52s.
01:36Samsung has made the screen much duller.
01:39This is something that I didn't see anyone talking about in these reviews and comparisons.
01:44I don't know if people aren't putting the screen side by side, but it's very clear.
01:48This is not the same vibrant, colorful display that we're used to.
01:53That's why when I first picked it up, I was like, yo, why is the screen just so dull?
01:57So, it looks like they cheaped out on the display or they changed something or did something,
02:02but it is nowhere near the same type of vibrant display
02:06that we've known to come and love on these mid-range phones.
02:09Now, the display quality is still good.
02:11It's pretty much untouched for the most part, still 1080p, still 120 hertz, whatever.
02:17But I've noticed the colors are just, they're just dull and it just does not look good.
02:22Again, it's something that a lot of people are ignoring, but I clearly saw it.
02:26I didn't even really need a side-by-side comparison.
02:29But yeah, that's one thing I noticed with the display.
02:32And again, this is minor stuff.
02:33It's not anything that's too crazy, but if you're a display person like me,
02:37that was a big thing that I just immediately did not like.
02:40All right, so the next reason that it's really hard for me to recommend this phone
02:45is because a lot of people, when they come to me, they actually come to me for gaming.
02:49So they say, is this going to be good for gaming?
02:51Is this the best I can get for this price point?
02:54And the answer is absolutely not.
02:57You're much better off going with an older flagship,
02:59even though the Exynos processor this year is pretty decent, guys.
03:03I'm not going to lie.
03:03I didn't have the stuttering issues that I had with the A54.
03:07It wasn't all glitching up and stuff like that.
03:10But the gaming is, it's okay on here.
03:12I don't really have too much of an issue.
03:14You can see you have smooth, but you only have HDR Ultra.
03:18But when you buy an old flagship, it's just a completely different level, right?
03:23So on the S22 Plus here, this phone, you have smooth, extreme plus.
03:28So you have 90 frames, and then if you want the better graphics, you have HDR extreme.
03:34But this phone, if you're a competitive gamer, you just have the better frame rates,
03:38and it'll just be overall better experience.
03:41And this pretty much translates throughout pretty much anything.
03:45You get less hiccups when it comes to the OS,
03:47when you're just scrolling, swiping, or you have a lot of stuff open.
03:50Or if you look at the Geekbench scores and the N22 scores,
03:54you just get better performance overall.
03:56And then not only that, but this is what a lot of people don't think about,
03:59better performance down the line.
04:00Typically, these mid-range phones will slow down a year or two from now,
04:05but these flagship phones, they're made so that they last a long time.
04:10So a lot of people forget about that.
04:11So definitely performance-wise, it's just a no-brainer.
04:16If you're into gaming or if slow phones and stuff like that is a problem for you,
04:22I would definitely go with an old flagship because these phones just last longer.
04:26Now, another good trade-off to getting an old flagship
04:29is typically going to be the software.
04:33So again, using Samsung as an example here,
04:36you got Samsung desktop support on here.
04:39You got more premium features.
04:40But this isn't all.
04:42So Samsung's going to be introducing Galaxy AI to the S22 series.
04:48And that's just going to be a totally mind-blowing thing for these older flagships.
04:53They're going to breathe a lot of life.
04:54It's going to have a lot of new features.
04:56The reason why that's important is because the AI features are pretty much the future
05:00mobile software for the most part from what we're seeing.
05:04You'll see it'll blow up really big once Apple starts doing it.
05:07But yeah, it's going to be really, really big, I think, in the next five years.
05:12And it's really, really cool that the S22 Plus is going to get the Galaxy AI feature.
05:17So that's also one thing to note.
05:19Of course, the A55 won't get it because it's a mid-range phone.
05:22Samsung has to limit it.
05:23So that's why I say I like to inform people about this type of stuff.
05:28Now, I also do want to touch on some other alternatives.
05:31I would get the iPhone 13 if you're not too bent on Android
05:36and you don't care about having an iPhone.
05:38This is an excellent phone.
05:40It has a much faster processor.
05:42It takes better pictures, way better video as well, too.
05:46And yeah, I would definitely get this phone in a heartbeat.
05:49And you get all the iOS stuff, FaceTime, and all that good stuff.
05:54Also, there are also some other alternatives to the picture.
05:57So the pictures on the A55, they aren't bad at all.
06:01I thought the pictures were pretty decent for the most part.
06:05But again, these older flagships will definitely do a much better job in low light.
06:10And also, video is not as limited.
06:12This only does 4K to 30 frames on the front and back.
06:16These older flagships will get you higher-res video for the most part, some of them.
06:21Like the S22 Plus can go up to 8K.
06:24And then for phones, if you're really, really bent on pictures,
06:28I would definitely consider getting a Pixel phone, guys.
06:32This is going to take the absolute best still.
06:34So if you're somebody, you post on social media or whatever like that,
06:38or you just like to take a lot of pictures, you want the best quality pictures,
06:41man, I would seriously consider picking up a Pixel 7 Pro.
06:45It's a really good phone.
06:47Processor, pretty decent.
06:48Hardware, really nice.
06:49You get stock Android, all that good stuff.
06:51But I would seriously pick this up just for the pictures.
06:55Yeah, it's just you can't really go wrong with the image quality on here.
06:59It's really, really good.
07:00So if you care about pictures, this is another good alternative to the A55.
07:04Then you have older flagships like the S21 Ultra.
07:10Another great phone that has S Pen support.
07:12It's bigger as well too.
07:13You get the full flagship experience with being able to take really good zoom shots as well too.
07:20You got the 100x zoom.
07:21So if you're outdoors, like a sporting event or something like that,
07:24you do that, just stuff where you would be zooming a lot.
07:27This is an excellent phone.
07:28Like I said, much better cameras in my opinion.
07:31And yeah, so I actually really like this phone.
07:34Now, the good thing about the A55 is that it will have pretty decently long software support.
07:41But the reason why I wouldn't worry about that too much is because these older flagships,
07:46they got, Samsung extended the lifespan of the phones when it comes to software.
07:51So you get much better, longer software on these older flagships, especially the Samsung one.
07:57And one of my favorite alternatives is the S21 FE.
08:01This phone, I believe, will get up to Android 16 as well too.
08:04And you can find this for 200 bucks.
08:06And it's extremely good.
08:08Has a better processor.
08:10The screen's better.
08:13Yeah, I just really like this phone.
08:14I think it's just better, just in general.
08:16The pictures are still really good on here as well too.
08:20So there's a lot of alternatives to the A55.
08:23Like I said, I did a couple comparisons.
08:25You guys can check that out.
08:26But what do you guys think?
08:28You would really have to be really bent on the SD card support.
08:32So if the SD card support is extremely important to you, then I would say go ahead and get it.
08:39But if it's not important to you, I mean, these older flagships and older phones,
08:43they just do a so much better job when it comes to processing.
08:48Also the cameras.
08:50You just have way more functionality.
08:52Gaming performance is going to be better on here.
08:55Battery life is still pretty good on these older flagships.
08:59The A55 has pretty good battery life.
09:01But these older flagships do a really good job, like the S22 Plus.
09:04Phenomenal battery life on here.
09:06That's why I said this phone, the S22 Plus, is really as big as competition.
09:12It's just a much better phone, in my opinion.
