00:00Alright guys, so we did a video the other day on the Galaxy A14, bought it for $100,
00:05but I told you guys, this phone unlocked costs around $200, and a lot of people are going
00:10to buy this phone and they don't know that they can get much better older flagships for
00:16$200, and I'm going to go ahead and go over some of the older flagships that I like that
00:20are actually $200 and cheaper, and there's a ton of more phones in this price range,
00:25but these are just some of the ones that I'm going to use for an example.
00:29Alright, so again, this is $200, unlocked A14 5G, and like I said, for $100, you know,
00:36we got it locked to Simply Mobile, but most people, they don't want to buy a locked phone,
00:40right?
00:41They want to get locked into a prepaid service.
00:44So let's go ahead and go over the benefits of getting an older flagship.
00:48Alright so, let's start off with the displays, and we got the Galaxy S10 here, the iPhone
00:5311, and then the Galaxy S20 FE.
00:57So all of these phones you can find for $200 and cheaper.
01:01So I'm going to kick it off with the display on why I like to recommend these older flagship
01:04phones.
01:05So you can see, just off rip, I got the A14 at max brightness.
01:10It's not a terrible display, but this is a big difference.
01:13You can see it looks dim because it's got bad viewing angles, right?
01:18So if I put it up like this, now you can see it kind of, almost kind of matches the color,
01:22but it's still kind of, kind of washed in terms of color, and then like I was saying
01:26in the video, the viewing angles are bad, right?
01:29And it's not, it doesn't do that good in direct sunlight.
01:31You can see these displays have really good viewing angles, even though the iPhone is
01:35also a LCD display, you can tell it's a higher quality LCD display, better color and better
01:41viewing angles.
01:43So the best display here is the Galaxy S20 FE, and this phone has 120Hz, and it's a beautiful
01:52panel here.
01:53120Hz, very smooth, completely flat display.
01:56Respectable bezels on here, and I absolutely love this display on here.
02:01Really good phone.
02:02I think one of the best displays, you know, out of the bunch here.
02:05So even you have the, if you want something smaller, the Galaxy S10.
02:12What's cool about this older flagship is that it actually has a 1440p display.
02:16Now there's no high refresh rate, but it's a very smooth 60Hz panel.
02:20It's got the punch hole, like I said, it's got a slight curve to it as well too.
02:24But you can watch content in 2K on here, and it's very, very sharp.
02:28And like I said, even if you wanted to get an iPhone, I would go with like an iPhone
02:3111, or you know, an iPhone XS, I think is around that price range as well too.
02:37But I think the iPhone 11, you can find $250 locked to a prepaid carrier as well, and you
02:42can find this well below $300 as well too.
02:45So like I said, the displays on these older flagships are off the bat, are going to be
02:48much better displays.
02:50Alright, here's also a big reason why I like to recommend older flagships, and that's mostly
02:55for the gaming experience.
02:57If you are trying to game, and you don't want to waste a ton of money on a phone, you can
03:02just get an older flagship, and you can see you get really good gaming settings guys.
03:07Excellent gaming settings here.
03:09So I'll show you guys here.
03:12So for the S20 FE Snapdragon 865 chip, you can see we're on HDR Extreme, and we can play
03:19at 60 frames pretty easily.
03:22But on something like the A14, and this goes across for all budget phones, or most, I'm
03:27sure there might be a few, but most budget phones and most mid-range phones cannot play
03:32most games as good as an older flagship.
03:34So you can see our best settings are balanced ultra, so we're not able to play PUBG at,
03:39you know, 60 frames, it doesn't look as good, and it doesn't run as smooth as it would.
03:44So that goes across the board, so even if you go, you know, for an iPhone, it's still
03:49going to play at HDR Extreme.
03:51Really good settings.
03:52It's going to play at 60 frames, and same thing for a Galaxy S10, I think we got a download
03:57on here.
03:58But yeah, so basically if you are a gamer, you will get a much better deal buying an
04:04older flagship.
04:05So all of these phones will play much better than the A14.
04:08Alright, so let's talk about some of the things that I know people mention.
04:14The cheaper phones have headphone jacks, they have SD card support.
04:17You do have SD card support on the S20 FE and the S10, and you also have a headphone
04:22jack on the S10 as well too, so that will be a good alternative for people who really
04:27need the headphone jack and the SD card support.
04:29But the only thing that's missing on the S20 FE is the headphone jack.
04:33The iPhone doesn't have either of them, so just do note that.
04:37But yeah, so you do have that taken care of, and what's really cool about these older
04:41flagship phones is you have the full version of One UI, again, for very cheap.
04:46So this is running the One UI Core version.
04:48So basically what that means is a lot of your flagship features are going on the Core version,
04:54like as you can see, the Samsung Edge panel, you also get reverse wireless charging, Samsung
05:01desktop support is on here.
05:03So you are getting quite a bit of features that you would have on the latest flagship,
05:08like the S23 Ultra, you pretty much have still all the same features.
05:12So that's something that I really like as well too.
05:15Another big reason is the audio quality.
05:17So all of these phones have stereo speakers, so I'll go ahead and just show you the A14.
05:23Typically these budget phones have one speaker, and I'll go ahead and show you the difference
05:27between quality.
05:50So it's basically like two times louder, and there's more bass, and it's a fuller sound.
05:54That goes across the board.
05:56So basically the benefit of having stereo speakers is that if you do, you're holding
06:01the phone in landscape, if you do cover the speaker up it won't ruin the experience, whether
06:05you're watching music videos or movies or whatever.
06:09You'll be able to hear everything.
06:11So even if I cover this one up, you see it doesn't really affect the sound quality.
06:26That much.
06:27So that's also another good benefit.
06:30And I think one of the most important things here is the camera quality.
06:33So the A14's cameras, I think that's probably the weakest spot of this phone.
06:40It does not really compare to older flagship phones.
06:43The cameras were decent, but the video, like I said, was nowhere near as good as any of
06:49these phones.
06:51The color is really off on the pictures, man.
06:56The colors are kind of off.
06:57You get really sometimes overexposed shots, like this one right here, where everything
07:01is just kind of blown out.
07:02And like I said, the color looks weird, man.
07:06But it's a somewhat decent camera, but it's just nowhere near as good as any of these
07:11phones, right?
07:12Also, all of these phones are able to shoot in 4K60, so they're able to just shoot better
07:18photos, better video, and it's just a much, much better experience.
07:22Even the oldest phone here, like the Galaxy S10, it's still taking much, much better
07:28photos than the A14 by far.
07:32So there's really no competition when it comes to the camera quality.
07:37So you just get overall a much better camera with these phones.
07:41Now, one thing the A14 does pretty well is that it has pretty decent battery life, pretty
07:46good standby time.
07:48The battery life is fairly decent on here, but again, not dramatically much better than
07:53these phones.
07:55All of these phones can do six hours of screen-on time.
07:57This feels like it's doing six hours plus of screen-on time for sure, so it does have
08:03a slight edge in battery life, but remember, these phones, you know, they're older phones,
08:09so the battery's been used, but it's not like a dramatic difference in terms of battery
08:13life, so you're not getting a huge battery upgrade.
08:15And also, I think the hardware is a pretty big thing too.
08:20You can pretty much tell the difference between a budget phone and a cheap phone.
08:27All these phones are IP68 dust and water resistant, they all have glass and metal or some type
08:32of premium material.
08:33This is just all plastic, right?
08:36So they just feel better, they look better to me as well too, and what's cool about older
08:42flagships is that you have the wireless charging on these phones as well too, and the two Galaxys
08:49have reverse wireless charging as well too.
08:52So I really like older flagship phones, I think it's just a much better option than
08:57the A14.
