00:00Have you ever made fun of someone by saying they can't walk and chew gum at the same
00:04time?
00:05Well, maybe that person is from Singapore.
00:08In Singapore, it's illegal to chew gum.
00:10But you don't have to travel far to find weird and bizarre laws.
00:14In Alaska, it is illegal to view a moose from an airplane.
00:18In Connecticut, it's illegal for a barber to hum a tune whilst cutting your hair.
00:22In Florida, it's illegal to be, well, intimate with a porcupine, although we're not sure
00:27how that's even logistically possible.
00:30In Indiana, you may not catch a fish with your bare hands.
00:34In Maryland, it is prohibited to curse while on the highway, which if you've ever driven
00:38through Baltimore, you know it's not enforced.
00:41In Montana, you cannot pretend to abuse an animal in front of a child.
00:45But like, wait, is this a problem in Montana?
00:47The most ironic law comes from New York, where it's illegal to congregate in public with
00:52two or more people, while each wearing a mask or any face covering which disguises your
00:57identity.
00:58We all know New York had one of the strictest mask mandates during COVID, so the law forced
01:03you to break the law.
01:05These silly laws are often called blue laws.
01:07They are outdated laws that often stem from a stricter religious time in our country,
01:12when many activities were particularly restricted on Sundays or the Sabbath.
01:17While these laws may still technically be on the books, they are not actually enforced.
01:21Then there are some bizarre laws that should be enforced but need not be set.
01:26For example, in Rhode Island, it is illegal to bite off another's limb.
01:29I'm no lawyer, but I think this law should be covered by broader laws of assault.
01:34Or in Oregon, it's illegal to place a container filled with human fecal matter on the side
01:39of any highway.
01:40Littering is already against the law, but I guess they needed to be more specific.
01:44Now, let's get to Missouri, which seems to have an exceptionally large amount of these
01:49blue laws.
01:50Missouri became a state in 1821, and it wasted no time in creating bizarre laws.
01:56Some of these laws only apply to specific towns or jurisdictions.
