00:00Hey guys, I'm Tom of TechJap, and this is the brand new Infinix Note 12 VIP.
00:06Very important.
00:07And I have to be honest with you, when I test phones like this, which cram so much in for
00:12actually under $300, it really makes you think, why do you need to spend more?
00:17But first things first, let's get this unboxed.
00:20And that is over to you, Tom.
00:22Boom.
00:23Look at that.
00:24Seamless editing.
00:25Hollywood magic right there.
00:26I'm sure you'll agree.
00:27So on the back of the box, we get some of the key specs of the Note 12 VIP.
00:31You can also see this is the 256 gig storage model, along with 8 gigs of RAM.
00:37We also have some of the key specs on the front here, including that 120 watt charging,
00:41which I will show you later just how fast this charges.
00:44But I'll tell you what, the first thing I thought when I unboxed this was how premium
00:48this felt for the price.
00:50It kind of reminded me of another phone I recently reviewed, one that rhymes with TiVo
00:55and also costs like three times more.
00:57And it's also ridiculously thin.
00:59Now elsewhere in the box, we have a protective case, which is always welcome, as well as
01:03stickers and an invitation to Infinix's social club.
01:06We also get a pair of earphones, which is a nice little bonus, as well as a USB-C to
01:09USB-A cable.
01:11And of course, this 120 watt fast charger.
01:15Considering you don't even get a charger in the box with a lot of phones these days, this
01:18is really good to see.
01:20Now this packs in a lot of tech, but before anything else, we have to talk about the charging
01:25because this is the world's thinnest phone that supports fast 120 watt charging.
01:32Now Infinix claim you can fully charge the Note 12 Pro VIP in just 17 minutes from zero
01:38to 100%.
01:39And well, I want to put that to the test and straight away you can see we've got this kind
01:44of nifty charging animation, but already just two and a half minutes into this test, we're
01:48already at 21%, which is pretty crazy actually.
01:52And then at five minutes, we're up to 41%.
01:55Then at 10 minutes, we're almost three quarters of the way there at 73%.
01:59And we're so close, 95% at the 15 minute mark.
02:04But look at that, just 16 minutes, 20 seconds to fully charge the phone.
02:08So this was actually faster in my real world test than Infinix's claimed 17 minutes.
02:14Not too shabby, just over 16 minutes to fully charge this.
02:18And it costs under $300 and you get the charger bundle in the box.
02:21You don't see that very often.
02:23So this speed is only possible because we have a dual cell battery inside.
02:27It's a 4,500 million power battery, which is a little bit smaller than the Infinix 12,
02:32which I tested a few months ago, but we do have much faster speeds.
02:36But just as importantly as the speed, Infinix are putting a lot of emphasis into the safety
02:40and also the longevity of the battery, which is why they've added 103 different protection
02:45features and also they use materials for the charging that are uncorrosive.
02:49And there's also 18 different thermal sensors that monitor the phone's temperature in real
02:53time to make sure that nothing is overheating.
02:57And actually they've tested this in over 800 charging cycles.
03:01And even after that, it still retained 85% of its battery.
03:04So even if you charge this once a day for over two years, you're still going to have
03:08most of your battery left, which is particularly impressive because that's comparable with
03:12other phones on the market, but that have much slower charging.
03:16It's all in a phone that's just 7.89 millimeters thick and also it weighs just 189 grams, which
03:22is pretty incredible actually, given the fact we have this big 6.7 inch screen.
03:27So let's talk about this display because again, keeping that price in mind, about $299, we're
03:32getting this 6.7 inch full HD plus 120 Hertz AMOLED screen.
03:38And we're also getting 360 Hertz touch sampling, which makes gaming or indeed just any touch
03:43input feel more responsive.
03:45The bezels are nice and thin with this small hole punch cutout at the top for the selfie camera.
03:50Around the back, we have this big camera module with a triple lens setup and also this nice
03:54contrast between the glossy and matte finishes.
03:58On the right side, we have the power button, which doubles as a fingerprint reader as well
04:01as the volume rocker.
04:03We're also getting stereo speakers and a three and a half mil headphone jack.
04:07And if I pop open the SIM card tray, you can see we get dual SIM and micro SD card support.
04:14So I've actually been playing a bit of Apex Legends, which is now on the Google Play Store,
04:18and I've got to say it ran well.
04:19It was a really good gaming experience.
04:22The MediaTek Helio G96 is not by any means the fastest chip on the market, but it is
04:27surprisingly capable and even these latest AAA games run really nicely.
04:32And of course, with that 360 Hertz touch response and in games that support 120 Hertz, it's
04:36a really nice smooth experience.
04:38What I would recommend doing though is jumping into the settings menu and then scrolling
04:42down to special function where we have lots of different modes.
04:46And then in memory fusion, you can see that we have this virtual RAM option, which takes
04:50some of the storage and then boosts the RAM when it needs it, particularly for speeding
04:54up apps that you regularly use.
04:56Now by default, this is set to three gigs, but I've changed it to five gigabytes because
05:00I don't really need all that storage, especially as we also have that micro SD support.
05:05Also while you're gaming, you can swipe in to open up the game sensor, which is where
05:09you can turn on screen recording, turn off notifications, and actually I think most importantly,
05:14you can even assign the volume buttons to whatever you like in the game, perhaps looking
05:18down your site or reloading a gun.
05:20So we're essentially getting a proper shoulder trigger for gaming.
05:23Okay, let's talk about this camera.
05:26And we're getting a 108 megapixel main lens with a one over 6.7 inch sensor and also uses
05:32nine into one pixel binning.
05:35So again, considering the price, this is actually quite impressive.
05:38And that's alongside a 13 megapixel ultra wide lens and also a two megapixel depth lens.
05:44And in good light, I think it does a pretty good job.
05:46Here are some snaps I've taken over the last few days that I've been using and testing
05:50the Note 12 VIP.
05:51And I've come away pleasantly surprised.
05:53Although one criticism I do have is the video, the stabilization.
05:57Even at 1080p, it's pretty shaky.
06:00So that is one thing I'd like to see improved next time.
06:07Now while we are talking room for improvement, there is still quite a lot of bloatware on
06:11the phone, pre-installed apps, but you can always just remove them or hide them.
06:14I do also appreciate that actually helps Infinix keep the cost of the phone a little bit lower
06:18because they make some money from that.
06:20And also as I say, the battery has shrunk from 5000 mAh on the Infinix 12 to 4500.
06:26We do of course get a much faster charging while still in a nice thin chassis.
06:31But as I say, a big battery is always nicer as well.
06:34But having said that, let's take a step back for a second.
06:37For a 6.7 inch, 120 Hz AMOLED screen with a high touch sampling rate, with a triple
06:43camera setup, 108MP main lens, microSD card and dual SIM, headphone jack, fast charger
06:50in the box.
06:51In fact, this is the world's thinnest 120W charging phone, as well as up to 8GB of RAM
06:56plus the memory fusion to boost it, up to 256GB of storage, and also a pretty nice looking
07:03design.
07:04Obviously, we don't have 5G, the G96 chip doesn't support it, and also it's not the
07:08fastest processor in the world, but it's still pretty capable.
07:11I still think on the whole, this is one of the best value phones you can buy.
07:16And if you do fancy checking this out for yourself, then I'll leave a link in the description
07:19below.
07:20And if you've got any questions at all, let me know in the comments.
07:23Thank you so much for watching guys, and I'll see you next time right here on The Tech Jab.
