00:12is expanding a food assistance program to support beneficiaries in response to increasing hunger.

00:25Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno of the Office of Civil Defense
00:28warned a projected death toll from the anticipated Big One earthquake hitting Metro Manila
00:33and could reach 30,000 to 50,000 lives, calling this outcome unacceptable.
00:39He urged for improved preparedness through stricter building regulations and heightened public awareness.
00:44Nepomuceno emphasized that while the government supports disaster readiness,
00:48personal responsibility for safety is essential.
00:52The Department of Social Welfare and Development, or DSWD,
00:55is expanding the Walang Gutom 2027 food stamp program in response to rising hunger in the country,
01:01with the percentage of families experiencing hunger increasing from 17.6% to 22.9%.
01:08By July 2024, the program is projected to have served 300,000 beneficiaries across 22 provinces,
01:15providing food credits and job skilling training.
01:18Over 180,000 beneficiaries are already enrolled with ongoing efforts to improve access to nutritious foods.
01:26Meanwhile, viral exanthema, or makaiha, has affected 32 students at Negros Occidental High School,
01:33with symptoms including a rash, fever, headaches, and fatigue.
01:36Parents have been advised to seek medical attention and keep symptomatic children at home
01:40to prevent a spread or infections.
01:43The condition is highly contagious and can be transmitted through saliva and contact with infected surfaces.
01:49Proper hygiene, including hand-washing and wearing masks, is essential to control the outbreak.
01:56During the Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October,
01:58the Department of Health, or DOH, and the Philippine Cancer Society stressed
02:03the importance of awareness and early detection, including breast self-exams and mammography.
02:08They highlighted risk factors, noting that while some are non-modifiable,
02:12others are lifestyle-related.
02:14Dr. Maricar Sabellano emphasized that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the Philippines
02:19and invited those seeking information or support to visit designated resources.
