00:00Hey, how's it going? Dave2D here.
00:04So the other day, a photo was leaked on SlashLeaks that looks to be the upcoming OnePlus 7.
00:10And this is a photo that speaks volumes of what this phone is going to look like.
00:13If it's accurate, it's going to be a phone with no notches, no cameras, nothing on the front screen.
00:18It's going to be a thinly-bezeled phone, and it's going to look super clean.
00:21And we've seen other notchless phones from other companies before, right?
00:24Like Vivo, Huawei, Xiaomi, and even Lenovo.
00:27They all have these notchless, camera-less designs that look good,
00:30but this might be the first notchless and obstruction-free display phone that we see readily available in North America.
00:36So it'll work with Verizon and stuff like that.
00:38And the way they've done this, the way that they've achieved this look is through a sliding mechanism.
00:43It's not clear whether it's a sliding pop-up camera or if it's a more traditional slider mechanism,
00:48but those camera holes in that leaked photo really say something about how that camera's going to work.
00:53Now when you first see this, the first thing that popped in my mind, or any kind of sliding phone,
00:56is that a sliding mechanism is going to have more problems, right?
01:00Like more moving parts, more risk of failure.
01:02But we've seen some really durable sliding phones over the years.
01:05Like we've seen stuff like the Sidekick phones.
01:07We've seen some really good Blackberry phones, like the DTEK phones, the Priv.
01:11They're all really well-built if you build it properly.
01:14And I'm assuming that the OnePlus 7 is going to be well-built,
01:17because OnePlus phones tend to have good build quality.
01:20But having a sliding mechanism in any phone is going to take up space.
01:24Like you have to have a rail system.
01:26You have to have different layers of materials to cover up the two halves of the phone.
01:29Like it's essentially two halves in a phone that slide past one another.
01:33And that takes up a lot more space than not having a sliding mechanism.
01:37And it's weird because OnePlus is a company that removed their headphone jack for the sake of saving space.
01:43And this is for a phone company whose user base loves the headphone jack.
01:46But this is the state of the industry right now.
01:48We're in a market where phone companies have to do stuff like this.
01:51They have to focus on aesthetics to differentiate themselves between everyone else.
01:55Like how do you sell a phone that fundamentally isn't that different from all the other ones out there?
01:59This. You do something like this. And it works.
02:02It's such a cool-looking phone.
02:04It also says something about OnePlus as a company.
02:06Like these guys develop fast.
02:08They went from the notch on the OnePlus 6 to the teardrop notch on the 6T.
02:12Now to this in a span of like 12 months.
02:15From a regular size notch to a notchless slider phone.
02:18Which is cool, right?
02:19They're not first to market with this technology.
02:21But they're bringing it to the masses.
02:23It's probably going to have the Snapdragon 855.
02:25And then further down the line, they'll have a more premium 5G version.
02:28But the thing that interests me most about this whole thing is pricing.
02:32So OnePlus, they started off with excellent pricing.
02:35At this point in time though, they're not really like a budget brand.
02:38Once you pass that $500 mark, they're clearly past that budget phone tier.
02:43They're in that like mid-tier market.
02:45Very saturated market.
02:46But they're doing well in this market.
02:48I'm curious to see what this thing comes in at.
02:50Because the last version, the 6T, was already priced a little bit higher than I'd like.
02:54I mean it was a great phone. It just wasn't a cheap phone by any means.
02:57And if the OnePlus 7 looks like those renders.
03:00And if it looks like the way that that leak suggests.
03:02And it's going to be super clean on the front.
03:04I think it's going to be like a $600 phone.
03:06It's going to be a great-looking phone.
03:07And OnePlus is going to package it with all the good stuff.
03:09Like Warp Charge and OxygenOS.
03:11But a lot of that price premium is going to go to the design.
03:14To the relatively unique look of that phone.
03:16And personally, I think it's worth it.
03:18I think I would be willing to pay that kind of money.
03:20For a phone that looks super clean like that.
03:22But I'm not everybody obviously.
03:24Would you?
03:25I'm curious. Let me know.
03:26Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video.
03:27Thumbs if you liked it.
03:28Subs if you loved it.
03:29See you guys next time.
