00:00Okay, so the OnePlus 8 just got leaked, and this is like a week out from when the OnePlus 7T just launched.
00:10And this leak comes from Steve from Owen Leaks, a very reliable and very reputable leaker.
00:15This dude doesn't usually just put stuff out there unless he's got a pretty solid source on it.
00:20And, I mean, this guy's track record is good.
00:22Most of his OnePlus leaks are on point, and he's one of the first people to accurately leak what the iPhone 11 would look like.
00:28So I'm inclined to believe this information.
00:30The big takeaway on this leak is the screen.
00:33It's rocking a hole-punch camera, and it's a curved screen.
00:36It's also supposed to have wireless charging, which is first for a OnePlus phone.
00:40But it's just crazy how far this phone deviates from the existing OnePlus 7T.
00:46And the emphasis on this leak is that it is the OnePlus 8.
00:49Not the OnePlus 8 Pro, but just like the regular version OnePlus 8.
00:53So that hole-punch camera, if this leak is accurate, I think this is the first phone I've seen
00:57that isn't a Samsung-branded phone that has a hole-punch camera on an OLED screen.
01:02Like, we've seen hole-punches on IPS LCD screens, but not on an AMOLED screen outside of what Samsung offers.
01:09Another feature you can see in this leak is the presence of a curved screen edge on that screen.
01:14And it's something I've talked about extensively on my channel.
01:17I don't like curved screens on my phones, and it's a very personal preference.
01:20But the regular OnePlus phones, like the 7, the 7T, the 6T, they've always had flat screens.
01:26And the Pro line has the curved screen.
01:29But it's weird that they're implementing a curved edge on the OnePlus 8.
01:33And it's something that does make these products look and feel more premium,
01:36especially in photos and videos.
01:37Like, for advertising material, curved edges look so nice.
01:41But just practically speaking, they don't provide anything.
01:45I just don't, I don't like that they're doing this.
01:47If this leak is true, I don't know.
01:50I think a lot of people are not going to be happy with this curved screen.
01:53The camera system on the back is also a little bit strange.
01:56Like, the 7T that just came out has this circular cluster that's big.
02:00It's got this horizontally lined up triple camera system.
02:03This new OnePlus 8 render, this leaked render, has a vertical orientation,
02:08kind of like the way that the OnePlus 7 Pro does.
02:11And it just feels strange that they'd revert back to that.
02:15But the whole thing about this design that is just really weird to me
02:19is that this phone looks so much like a Samsung phone.
02:23Like, imagine it's a Galaxy S10, and this is just what it looks like.
02:27It's very Samsung.
02:29And there's nothing wrong with that.
02:30Maybe that's what they're going for.
02:31Like, maybe OnePlus wants to make their products look more, like, Samsung-like,
02:36like, more premium.
02:37But, like, here's the thing.
02:39OnePlus phones have always had an iconic design to them,
02:43something that not everyone would like,
02:44but it was just visually recognizable as a OnePlus design.
02:48Now, understand that once you start implementing hole-punch cameras on the front,
02:51they're all going to look like that,
02:53especially if you don't have notches or any kind of distinguishing features up front.
02:57But that particular leak looks very Samsung to me.
03:00And I'm curious what you guys think.
03:01Like, I know a lot of you guys are big OnePlus fans.
03:03Are you guys comfortable with OnePlus pushing in that direction
03:07so that their phones look so similar to Samsung's product line?
03:10And also, here's another question that just popped up into my mind.
03:13What's the difference now?
03:15Like, what's the difference between a Samsung flagship and one of these OnePlus phones?
03:20Like, sure, the camera's better on the Samsung phone,
03:22but if this OnePlus 8 does in fact have wireless charging,
03:25there's just even more feature parity between these brands.
03:28I don't know.
03:29It feels strange to me.
03:30Like, I don't know about the reliability of this leak, right?
03:34It is Steve, and he has a great track record,
03:36especially with OnePlus products.
03:37So I'm just, I'm inclined to believe this, but it just feels so weird to me.
03:41Okay, that basically wraps this up.
03:43Obviously, the OnePlus 8 is going to be, like, what, spring of 2020 when it comes out?
03:47And I'm sure it's going to have, like, the regular trimming, like, all the regular upgrades.
03:50But just from a design perspective, the aesthetics of this phone,
03:55it's strange.
03:56It's strange.
03:57Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video.
