00:00Alright, this is the OnePlus 7T, and there's a lot to talk about with this phone.
00:08So in terms of hardware, they've done a really good job with it.
00:11I would say that there's a lot of features on this phone that I wish my OnePlus 7 Pro
00:15had.
00:16Like, this has been my main phone for the past few months, I really like this phone,
00:19and there are features on this phone, the smaller, cheaper one, that I actually prefer.
00:25But there's also some stuff that feels a little bit off-brand, like it just doesn't feel very
00:29OnePlus with this phone, so let's talk about that.
00:33Right off the rip, the most prominent kind of feature with this phone, can you tell what
00:38it is?
00:39Can you tell what I'm about to say?
00:40It's this camera, right?
00:42Everyone's thinking this camera.
00:43It does not look like a very OnePlus phone.
00:46Every single OnePlus phone that's ever come out, I love the design.
00:50Every single one of them.
00:51This one feels less visually pleasing to me.
00:54It's got this big circle with a triple camera cluster.
00:56Maybe I haven't spent enough time with this phone to kind of get used to it, or maybe
01:00it's just the color, but I feel like this would look better if it just had a plain black
01:04back panel, or just something to mute the prominence of this big circle.
01:08Now, the other big feature of this phone is the screen.
01:1290Hz, 1080p, AMOLED, and it's still very sharp.
01:15Not as sharp as the 1440p panel on the OnePlus 7 Pro, I mean, if you put them side by side,
01:21you can tell them apart, but I think most people would be very happy with this screen.
01:25But the real selling point is that 90Hz refresh, and it just makes everything look super smooth
01:29on this display.
01:30Now, at this point in time, not everyone has seen these fast refresh screens, so it's hard
01:35to kind of convey what this image really looks like if you haven't seen one.
01:39They look good, but not everyone is susceptible to it, right?
01:42Some people look at this stuff and don't really get anything from it, but I think the vast
01:45majority of people, they look at these smooth animations and the, kind of how smooth these
01:49screens look, and they really like it.
01:51And with the OnePlus 7T, it doesn't have the curved edge.
01:54It's something I've talked about a lot with the OnePlus 7 Pro, and a lot of other flagships
01:58that kind of curve the edges of their displays.
02:00This has a flat screen, it just, it's a preference thing.
02:03I like it flat, so there's less accidental swipes.
02:06The camera's also very good, I'm not going to go too in-depth on these cameras.
02:10Of the devices that have this sensor, the IMX586, I think OnePlus devices do it the
02:15best, but it's not like a Pixel or an iPhone 11 camera.
02:19It does have a 2x optical zoom and a wide angle, I think most people will enjoy this
02:23camera system overall.
02:25But the one feature that I think is really cool in this camera is it has a macro feature.
02:29So you just put your object really close to the lens, put it on 2x zoom, hit the macro
02:33function, and you can see crazy detail of things up close.
02:37You can see cool stuff, you can see gross stuff.
02:39There's a lot of fun stuff you can do with the macro lens.
02:42I'm sure there's also professional functionality as well, but it's just cool to see stuff in
02:46detail.
02:47Now, I'm someone that as a kid just loved magnifying glasses, like be able to see things
02:51in extreme detail.
02:52It's just so cool, and to be able to have that function on a smartphone is great.
02:56And it doesn't feel gimmicky, these actually feel like good macro photos.
03:00I'm not sure if it's all done optically, there could be some software going on, but it does
03:03look good.
03:04Now, aesthetics and cameras aside, this is a very powerful smartphone.
03:08It's got a faster CPU than the OnePlus 7 Pro, and it ships with Android 10.
03:12I think this is actually the very first phone, if I'm not mistaken, that comes out, like
03:17out of the factory with Android 10.
03:18It's actually on the market before the Pixel phones.
03:22It's just a testament as to how much OnePlus cares about software and how frequently they
03:26update and stuff, like this is one of the best features about their phones, they update
03:30a lot.
03:31The battery life on this phone is also very good, I'm getting like six and a half hours
03:34of screen on time.
03:35It's obviously gonna vary depending on the person, but that's at 1080p and 90Hz, so take
03:40that however you want.
03:41The charging is also faster, they call it Warp Charge 30T, it's supposed to hit 70%
03:46in half an hour.
03:47I got 68, but whatever, close enough.
03:49It's very fast charging.
03:51The vibration motor, or haptic motor, has also been upgraded.
03:54It's different feeling from the 6T, like the last year's model, but it's not as powerful
03:59or as nice feeling as the OnePlus 7 Pro.
04:02If I had to describe it, it's like not as buzzy or like vibrate-y as the 6T, but it's
04:07just not as strong as the OnePlus 7 Pro.
04:10It almost feels a little bit weaker, but it feels precise.
04:14Now this phone goes for $600, or $599 US, and I think this is where things get a little
04:19bit more complicated.
04:20It's a fair price for this phone, it's just that a lot of the kind of big brand names
04:25have entered into this price territory with stuff like the Galaxy S10e, and like the Pixel
04:31devices, like the A devices.
04:33Not that they're $600, but they're clearly playing in the mid-tier kind of budget range,
04:39and OnePlus is no longer a budget phone.
04:41At a $600 entry-level price tag, it's not a budget phone.
04:45It's a inexpensive premium phone, or less expensive premium phone, and this phone, or
04:51like the OnePlus phones, have always been, in the past, very easy for me to recommend
04:56to people.
04:57It's just like a universally enjoyable, inexpensive, mid-tier device.
05:01But right now, it's not as clear of a recommendation.
05:04If you're someone that prefers Android, and you don't need like a super amazing camera,
05:09you want like a good one, but not like the best of the best, and you like fast updates
05:12and you appreciate stuff like high refresh screens, and macro lenses, because they're
05:17super cool.
05:18This is more feature-specific now, right?
05:20Like it's more of a focus product that, if you can kind of line this up to what you like,
05:25it's an obvious choice.
05:26But it's not as universal of a choice as OnePlus devices have been in the past.
05:31I wish this camera bump wasn't so bumpy, but it's still a solid phone overall.
05:35Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video, thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
05:38See you guys next time.
