Malaysia carriers fail to meet on-time targets, says Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed on Wednesday (Oct 16) that Malaysia's major airlines have struggled to meet the 85% on-time performance (OTP) target set by the aviation regulator, according to the latest data from August and September this year.

00:00The Ministry of Transportation, through the Malaysian Aviation Authority, MAFKOM,
00:03has always monitored the violations and cancellation of flights by airlines in Malaysia.
00:09Based on the data from January to August this year,
00:13a total of 315,388 flights have been scheduled,
00:19while 258,112 flights have been operated by Malaysian airlines.
00:27Based on the number of flights operated,
00:29a total of 76% of flights have exceeded the scheduled time.
00:34For flights that face delays,
00:3690.2% have been delayed for less than two hours,
00:40while the rest of the flights have been delayed for more than two hours.

00:46MAFKOM always monitors the timing of local flight companies
00:50through the on-time performance rate at Terminal 1 and 2.
00:55Based on the latest data,
00:57Malaysian Airlines has shown an increase in the OTP rate by 78.1%.

01:04it was 58.2% in August for domestic flights,

01:49while AirAsiaX achieved an OTP rate of 81.8% in September,

01:59Batik Air achieved an OTP rate of 73.8% in September,
02:04compared to 82.9% in August for domestic flights,
02:09while the OTP rate for international flights is 57.7% in September,
02:15compared to 71.7% in August.
02:19To address this issue,
02:21MOT and Mefkom in April 2024 set an OTP target of 85%
02:27and 80% of flights that meet the schedule for all Malaysian airlines
02:32operating from all airports in Malaysia.
02:35The results of monitoring the performance of these airlines
02:37were published on the Mefkom website.
02:40If the airline fails to meet the target,
02:42it can have an effect on the request of the airline
02:44for an update or to improve the air traffic on behalf of Mefkom.
