00:05Today, we're going to eat some ice cream while we learn about vowels and consonants.
00:09In the alphabet, there are two different types of letters.
00:13Vowels and consonants, A, E, I, O, and U, are called vowels.
00:20They are very special letters that can make more than one sound.
00:24Consonants are what you call all of the other letters in the alphabet.
00:28Let's look at the alphabet with Chip.

00:31Do you remember which of the letters are vowels?
00:34That's right!
00:35A, E, I, O, and U.
00:40Now let's take out the vowels and see what's left.

00:44These letters are called consonants.

01:13The short A sound says, ah, like an apple.
01:17The long A sounds like its own name, A, like in the word ape.
01:23The short E sound says, eh, like in nest.
01:28The long E sounds like its own name, E, like in the word feet.
01:34The short I sound says, ih, like in igloo.
01:38The long I sounds like its own name, I, like in the word five.
01:45The short O sound says, aw, like in top.
01:49The long O sounds like its own name, o, like in the word rope.
01:55The short U sound says, uh, like in up.
01:59The long U sounds like its own name, u, like in the word cute.
