00:00Good morning children, welcome back to my grammar class.
00:13In today's session, we are going to learn conjunctions.
00:18The three conjunctions that we are going to look into are and, but, or.
00:25So let's start today's session.
00:35First of all, let's understand what do we mean by conjunctions.
00:41Conjunctions are joining words.
00:42They are also known as connecting words.
00:47They join words or group of words or short sentences.
00:54Let's try to understand the three conjunctions and, but, or with some examples.
01:06The first conjunction that we are going to learn is and.
01:11We use and to combine similar ideas or add information.
01:21Here are some examples.
01:29Here we are talking of Tom and his love to play the two games.
01:35So when we combine these two sentences, our answer would be.
01:51Dog is a faithful animal.
01:54Dog is a clever animal.
01:56Here we are talking about dog and its qualities.
02:00And hence when we join these two sentences, our answer would be.
02:08Dog is a faithful and clever animal.
02:12Here the conjunction that we used is and to join these two sentences.
02:23The third example.
02:25This Friday is a holiday.
02:28I would like to go for shopping.
02:30When we join these two sentences where we are adding information, our answer would be.
02:42This Friday is a holiday and I would like to go for shopping.
02:53So just now what we have done is that we have joined certain sentences using and.
02:59Now children, when we join these sentences using and, we have to remember a thing.
03:06Let me try to explain it with the example which we have done just now.
03:13Tom loves to play cricket.
03:15Tom loves to play football.
03:17If you observe these two sentences, you will realize that the words Tom loves to play are
03:24repeated twice.
03:26So when we join these sentences to make one, what we have to do is that we have to remove
03:34the part that is repeated.
03:37So in the second part of the sentence, Tom loves to play is repeated.
03:42Hence we will remove that part and in place of that, we will use a conjunction and.
03:49As a result, our answer would be Tom loves to play cricket and football.
04:01The second conjunction that we are going to learn is but.
04:05We use but to show a difference or an opposite idea.
04:15Here are some examples.
04:17Ram ran fast.
04:19He finished third in the race.
04:22Here we are talking of an opposite idea and hence when we combine these two sentences,
04:29our answer would be Ram ran fast but he finished third in the race.
04:41Here is our second example.
04:43Aryan wants to play.
04:45He is sick.
04:47So let's combine the sentences into one.
04:51Aryan wants to play but he is sick.
04:59In the third example, Giraffe is tall.
05:04Dog is short.
05:06Here we are talking about the difference in height and hence our sentence would be Giraffe
05:12is tall but Dog is short.
05:21Now we move on to the third conjunction or.
05:24We use or to show a choice between two or more options.
05:35Here are some examples.
05:38Do you want ice cream?
05:40Do you want pizza?
05:42Here the choice is between ice cream and pizza.
05:46So when we combine these two sentences, our answer would be.
05:51Do you want ice cream or pizza?
06:01Chota Bheem can go to the park.
06:04He can go to the cinema theatre.
06:07Here the choice is between park and cinema theatre.
06:11So when we combine these two sentences, our answer would be.
06:16Chota Bheem can go to the park or cinema theatre.
06:25Third example.
06:27Is it Monday?
06:29Is it Tuesday?
06:31So our answer would be.
06:33Is it Monday or Tuesday?
06:36So children, here too when we join sentences using or, we have to remember the same point
06:43that we had done when we were joining sentences using and.
06:49Let me tell you with this example.
06:51Do you want ice cream?
06:53Do you want pizza?
06:55Here you will notice that the words do you want is repeated twice.
07:00So when we combine these two sentences, our answer would be.
07:04So when we combine these two sentences, what is going to happen?
07:08The repeated part will disappear and in place of that we will use a conjunction or.
07:21So children, in today's class what did we learn?
07:24We learned that conjunctions are joining words.
07:29And we have seen the usage of three conjunctions.
07:33We used and to join similar ideas.
07:38We used but to join opposite ideas.
07:42And we have used or whenever we want to make a choice.
07:49Well done child.
07:50So remember my dear children, the three conjunctions and but or.
07:56And is used for joining similar or same ideas.
08:00But is used for joining opposite ideas.
08:03And we use or whenever we need to make a choice between some options.
08:14I hope my children have been able to follow the usage of conjunctions.
08:20Thank you children for watching this video.
