00:00According to NFL Network's Tom Pellicero, the commanders may have lost more than just
00:04the game yesterday. According to Pellicero, commander standout defensive tackle John Allen
00:09is feared to have suffered a significant pectoral injury that will require season-ending surgery.
00:15Allen looking to get a second opinion, but would be a huge loss for Washington, who currently
00:18sits atop the NFC East at 4-2.
00:23Thank you, Linnell, for the breaking news here to 106.7 The Fan. So John Allen, potentially
00:29a Danny loss for the year. He has been one of their best players over the last several
00:33seasons. He has had a down statistical year. He does get double teamed and chipped a whole
00:37lot in the middle of the defensive line. They are deeper there where they've got De'Ron
00:41Payne, who's terrific, where they drafted Johnny Newton. That pick looks a little bit
00:44more fortuitous now, as you plug him in, presumably as a starter. They kept Darion Mathis, a former
00:49second round pick, around as well. And they do have a pretty heavy rotation. They lost
00:54two defensive ends yesterday, Dorrance Armstrong with a rib injury, and Javante Jean-Baptiste
00:58was in a boot after the game.
01:00But if Allen is out for the year, a bad defense losing one of its best overall players is
01:05a very, very bad sign. Yeah. When you're when you have a bad group, regardless of whether
01:10Allen's had a banner year or not, he is not by all accounts, especially to statistically
01:14measured, doesn't make you better. You know what I mean? It just makes it that you're
01:17going to have to have other folks step up.
01:19And I hate next man up. It's so cliched and hackneyed, but that has to happen. Guys are
01:24gonna have to do more pain. He's gonna have to be more productive than he's been. Johnny
01:27Newton went from rotational piece, presumably to focal point. So that stinks for Allen on
01:32a number of fronts. Just a great dude who's done everything right since he's been here.
01:36Not much guaranteed money. I think no guaranteed money going in the next year. So maybe for
01:39an agent year for him. So that is not ideal, certainly for him. But yeah, I mean, the defense
01:43itself, it's like at a certain point, you can't see you can afford to lose anybody.
01:48You don't want root for injuries or, you know, can't even deal with them. But there are certain
01:51spots where you could probably deal with it a little bit better.
01:53You know, if like I'm trying to think of a good example, I don't have one. But if you
01:58know, if somebody at the linebacker spot was out and you have four or five guys that are
02:02waiting in the wings, that's fine. But this is a weak group that's gotten a little bit
02:07weaker. I mean, they're not getting after the pastor. They're not disruptive and not
02:09having John Allen, who's been capable, who has had times where he's been that disruptive
02:13force. That's not going to help you.
02:16Tom Pellicero, NFL Network reporting. Jonathan Allen could be done for the season. And this
02:21is something we've been hearing rumblings of, I will say, at the radio station over
02:25the last few hours, that this was presumably going to be a pretty serious injury, that
02:29it could cost him much of, if not the remainder of his season. And the team is currently fearing
02:35that he will miss the entirety of the season recovering from this torn peck.
