Focus on inclusivity, sustainability: Malaysia receives Asean chairmanship baton from Laos

As the 44th and 45th Asean Summits draw to a close, Malaysia has symbolically received the chairmanship of Asean from Laos.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the theme of inclusivity and sustainability was chosen by Malaysia as it reflects her aspirations for shared progress that ensures no one is left behind.

00:17announcing that Malaysia's theme for its chairmanship
00:20will focus on inclusivity and sustainability,
00:23reflecting its commitment to shared progress without leaving anyone behind.
00:27During his speech during the closing ceremony of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit
00:33and related summits in Vientiane on Friday,
00:36Anwar emphasised that the theme symbolises hope
00:39and the resolve to shape a future-oriented ASEAN.
00:42He reiterated that decisions within ASEAN would continue to be guided by consensus.
00:47The Premier also highlighted ASEAN's intention to strengthen internal unity
00:52while expanding economic partnerships globally,
00:55citing the ASEAN Gulf Cooperation Council GCC plus China Summit in 2025
01:02as a key step toward this goal.
01:04He reaffirmed ASEAN's dedication to maintaining Southeast Asia
01:08as a peaceful, stable and prosperous region.
01:11Malaysia's ASEAN 2025 logo,
01:15inspired by the hibiscus flower in red, blue and yellow,
01:18will be unveiled soon.
01:20Anwar is scheduled to return to Kuala Lumpur on Friday night.
