00:37The Senate Committee on Migrant Workers Chairperson Sen. Rafi Tulfo said
00:42that when they learned of the incident, they were asked to take responsibility for the DFA
00:46to monitor the situation and provide assistance to the distressed Filipinos.
00:52They asked the victims to talk to them so that they would know what assistance they needed.
00:57The Senator said that all parties should be held accountable for this illegal act.
01:02The Department of Justice and the Interagency Council Against Trafficking also want to investigate again.
01:08The DOJ is urging the government to protect our countrymen from exploitation and abuse.
01:17The DOJ also called on our countrymen to be alert and be careful of the work being done abroad.
01:23The DOJ also asked for assistance from their foreign counterparts and international organizations
01:29in the ongoing campaign against any form of exploitation.
01:34The Department of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies
01:38that they are in talks with were the first to be called.
01:40But the DFA has a reminder.
01:42All throughout Southeast Asia, there is a lot of traffic.
01:45Scammers, surrogates, and others.
01:49Please, before you go to our countrymen to work,
01:55you will go through the DMW-POA, the official process.
01:59Of course, there is a fine, there is a hassle.
02:02But it's important, there is protection.
02:04But in a sad situation,
02:06we believe most knew.
02:09They knew what they were getting into.
02:11But some, most,
02:13it's impossible that one or two didn't know what they were getting into.
02:18Because usually, what they are told is that
02:20there are jobs in Thailand,
02:22in Cambodia, computer work,
02:24tourism work.
02:26That's what they are doing.
02:28We just heard about a surrogate.
02:30Actually,
02:32it's possible, it's happening in other countries.
