00:00The Senate wants to investigate the alleged trafficking of Filipinos in Cambodia to become surrogates.
00:07The DOJ is warning Filipinos about accepting jobs abroad.
00:12This is the center of the news, Daniel Manalastas.
00:17The Senate has already signed a resolution to investigate what happened to the Filipinos in Gip
00:22who were made surrogate mothers in Cambodia.
00:25Senator Arisa Hondeveros, a member of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality,
00:32said that 20 Filipinos in Gip and 13 in Lolito were made surrogates.
00:38The Senate Committee on Migrant Workers Chairperson, Senator Rafi Tulfo, said
00:43that when they learned about the incident, they were instructed by the DFA
00:47to monitor the situation and provide assistance to the distressed Filipinos.
00:53They asked the victims to talk so that they would also know the assistance they need.
00:58The Senator said that all parties involved in this illegal act should be held accountable.
01:03The Department of Justice and the Interagency Council Against Trafficking also want to investigate again.
01:09The DOJ is encouraging the government's efforts to protect our countrymen from exploitation and abuse.
01:18Next, the DOJ called on our countrymen to be alert and to be careful with the work being done abroad.
01:24The DOJ also asked for assistance from their foreign counterparts and international organizations
01:30in the campaign against any form of exploitation.
01:34The Department of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies were the first to insist that they are involved in the discussion.
01:41But the DFA has a reminder.
01:43All throughout Southeast Asia, there is a lot of trafficking.
01:46Scammers, surrogates, and others.
01:50Please, before you go to our countrymen to work, you will go through the DMW-POA, the official process.
02:00Of course, there is a fine, there is a hassle, but what's important is that there is protection.
02:05But in a sad situation, we believe most knew.
02:10They knew what they were getting into.
02:12But some, most, it's impossible for one or two to not know what they were getting into.
02:19Because usually, they are told that they have jobs in Thailand, in Cambodia, computer work, tourism work.
02:29But when it comes to this, others are doing it.
02:31We just heard about the surrogate.
02:33Actually.
02:34It's possible, it's happening in other countries.
02:37Daniel Maranastas for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
