00:00We're at Wellington Methodist Church and Sue, it's the 10th anniversary of U3A.
00:18For Wellington, Shropshire, yes.
00:21For people that don't know, what is U3A?
00:24U3A is a gathering of people who no longer work full-time.
00:30If you work part-time, or if you're retired, or you're just lucky enough not to work, you can join U3A.
00:39And what do you do when you get together?
00:41When we get together, we have an ethos, if you like, of sharing our knowledge.
00:48So, I have learned how to play bridge from someone who's a bridge player.
00:53I've learned how to quilt from someone who's a quilter.
00:57We have members who will teach you how to sing, to go on walks, how to dance, anything else you can think of.
01:05And how often do you get together?
01:06We get together once a month. This is one of our regular meeting days, but something special.
01:13And as well as that, we have many, many what we call interest groups.
01:18And they can be many and varied, from reading a book, to riding a bike, to flying a kite.
01:25And you've got a special guest, we've got the High Sheriff, is he in today?
01:28We have the High Sheriff, Brian Welty. He was very kind enough to come and to honour us in this celebration.
01:37And also we have the Deputy Mayor of Wellington.
01:41And as we're meeting in the Methodist Church, we have invited members of the lay congregation as well.
01:49So how long have you been involved in the U3A?
01:51Since it started. My membership number is three.
01:55Yeah?
01:56So, yes, quite a while.
01:58So what has it given to you, to your life in the last ten years? Obviously you've learned some new skills.
02:02I've learned some new skills, and also I know over a hundred people I didn't know before.
02:09I can't walk into Wellington without meeting someone who says hello, how are you?
02:14And that's a good thing, isn't it?
02:15It's an excellent thing.
