When asked on Friday (Oct 11) about the need to recall members of the Malaysian Battalion Team (MALBATT) 850-11 in Lebanon following Israel’s attack in the south, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin emphasised that the safety of Malaysian personnel serving under the United Nations remains his top priority.
He noted that the Defence Ministry receives reports three to four times daily from the peacekeepers' Joint Headquarters on the situation in Lebanon, and any decision to withdraw Malaysian troops will be made by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

00:00We are always in contact and communicate in a continuous manner through our headquarters
00:29of the United Nations, which is responsible for our Malabar.
00:34Malabar is now under UNIFIL, United Nations International Interim Force for Lebanon, UNIFIL.
00:45We receive reports every day, three or four times.
00:51We are investigating. We do not deny that the IDF has provoked the Ireland team
01:03which is close to the Lebanese border, whereas we are a little above.
01:09So we are waiting for a joint decision on this issue, because it is related to UNIFIL.
01:18What we know is that it has been announced that all operations will be stopped.
01:29There is no control anymore.
01:31And we are always on the bench and advised to be on the bench.
01:39One hour on the bench is 12 hours, 13 hours.
01:42Do not sit on the bench. No activity, nothing.
01:45But UNIFIL has not yet made a decision to be moved.
01:49You must still be there.
01:51Because if not, there are other challenges.
01:53So the question is, we are always in contact and we do put the safety of our members as a priority.
02:05And we always monitor the situation in southern Lebanon.
02:09That's all for now.
