A woman who moved to Mauritius for a "better lifestyle" says it allows her to be a stay-at-home mum which she could "never afford" in the UK.

Annabel Fenwick Elliott, 37, didn't want to put her son Jasper, two, in day care and had become self-employed so she could be more present for him.

The mum-of-one moved her family to Mauritius as her German-born husband, Julius Scholtes, 31, couldn't get a visa in the UK.

But the family fell in love with the lifestyle and pay a similar price for a four bedroom house with a pool as Annabel did for her "tiny" studio flat in London.

It enables her to stay at home with her son while working flexibly and she now couldn't see herself moving back to the UK.

00:00We just moved to a country that we've never even been before, to a villa that we've never
00:02even seen, and now we live here, and I'm going to show you around.
00:06We're in Mauritius.
00:07It very much feels like we've won the lottery, because we could no way be able to afford
00:09to live anywhere like this in Morocco or generally the West.
00:12We used to live in Iceland, then we lived in the UK.
00:14Never lived in the tropics before.
00:15I've got a one-year-old baby.
00:16Hi!
00:17We took the plunge, guys.
00:18We took the plunge, and I think it's going to pay off.
00:20Hi, Jasper.
00:21We're doing a villa tour, like MTV Cribs.
00:24So the villa is called Le Californie, Californie or something.
00:28Don't try and break in, guys.
00:29It won't work.
00:30So here it is.
00:31We've got palm trees.
00:32This is a big bag of dog food that we're going to keep in the car so that we can hand out
00:35to strays.
00:36There are lots of strays around here.
00:37Look, there's a little birdbath.
00:38Okay, and here is the house.
00:39Okay, so here is the entrance.
00:44Here is the desk, a charging station.
00:47These are mirrors.
00:48Hi!
00:49Okay, Jasper's having an existential crisis.
00:50Hi!
00:51Here is the sofa.
00:52Here is...
00:53I love this table.
00:54Here is our laundry.
00:55Here are some books.
00:56Here is our curious desk.
00:57Here is our curious desk, which contains some glass that came out of a real volcano that
01:03erupted recently in Iceland, which is where we last lived.
01:06Here is a shell from here.
01:07And here is a weaver nest from a weaver bird that lives here.
01:11This was on the ground.
01:12It was abandoned.
01:13Don't worry.
01:14We're not psychos.
01:15We didn't pick it off a tree.
01:16This is a large decorative gong.
01:18Ding, ding, ding.
01:19You want to play with this?
01:21He loves playing with this.
01:23We filled these drawers with toys that he can open and get out at his leisure.
01:27Fun, fun, fun.
01:28That's what I call it.
01:29TV's in a bit of a weird shit position.
01:32I guess there should kind of be a sofa here maybe, but there's not, but it pulls out,
01:36you know?
01:37So you can kind of watch it there if you want.
01:38But why would you want to watch TV when you've got this outside?
01:42I hate when people say shit like that.
01:44Of course, I still wouldn't watch TV even though there's nice stuff outside.
01:48He's found the drawer again.
01:51This is the kitchen, which is really modern and great.
01:53We had a really skanky kitchen before, so this feels kind of special.
01:57Mmm, drawers.
01:58I love putting products in drawers instead of on shelves.
02:01It's a real thing for me.
02:06This leads to the outside where the stray cats live.
02:09We've got three stray cats here that we're feeding.
02:12So this is the room of crap, as I call it.
02:14This is where we put all of the things that we don't need or the things that are dangerous
02:17for Jasper that he could, like, pull over himself, so there's decorative stuff, glasses.
02:22All of that is just banned into this room forevermore.
02:24This is the main guest room, which is also going to be my office.
02:29So that's where my computer is going to go.
02:31It has its own bathroom, oh my goodness, wow.
02:36This we believe to be a dog turd.
02:37I have no idea how a dog got in and turded on the lawn, but there you go.
02:42This is our bathroom.
02:44This is our bedroom.
02:47And it leads straight out to the pool, oh my goodness.
02:50In this chest resides a spider.
02:52So I haven't opened that chest since I first saw the spider in it, so the spider's still
02:55living in there.
02:56Our wardrobe is in there.
02:57I'm not going to show you because it's filled with crap, so I can do this video.
03:00Hidden, hidden crap.
03:01Here is our bathroom.
03:02It has an indoor and an outdoor shower, guys.
03:05But look what Julia's found.
03:06You see what this is?
03:08Is a snake shedded skin.
03:10Skin that's shed from a snake.
03:12We have two sinks.
03:13A sink for each person, me and the Julia.
03:15How exciting and civilized is that?
03:17I just can't get over how cool and grown-up and sophisticated this is.
03:21And here is Jasper's room.
03:23Jasper's never had his own room before.
03:24This is so exciting.
03:25We haven't made it fully nice yet.
03:27He's sleeping on a floor bed, a double floor bed, no less.
03:30We're going to put these glow-in-the-dark fish stickers everywhere, all over the wall.
03:34So cool.
03:35There's his various cameras.
03:36And then we're going to put safari animals all over this wall.
03:39And these curtains are really good and blackie-outie.
03:41And those are coconuts on that tree, guys.
03:43Yes, that's right.
03:45This is his noodle station.
03:46This is a nappy-changing thing, which we actually never use.
03:48I'm going to put, like, books and stuff there for him.
03:50I'm going to put a mirror down here somewhere so he can look himself in the mirror,
03:53because he loves looking in the mirror.
03:54Himself, because he is vain.
03:55Just like his father.
03:56Hi!
03:57So that's the pool.
03:58It is so great.
03:59This is a little thing at the end that you do stuff in.
04:01I don't really know what.
04:02I guess hang out there.
04:03There's a barbecue there.
04:04Oh my god, amazing.
04:05There's a spiral staircase up here.
04:07Whoa!
04:08That leads up to a sun deck.
04:09No, don't peel the sticker off.
04:10No, Jasper, no.
04:11This might be the coolest thing ever.
04:13This is a waterfall that goes up from there, down into there.
04:16How freaking cool is that?
04:17And at night, it lights up, guys.
04:19Absolutely stunning.
04:24And that's the sea over there.
04:26And then these are just agricultural fields.
04:28And then we've got some lawn.
04:30And then we've got a coconut tree that grows out the top, guys.
04:32Oh my god.
04:36You may have noticed there's no pool fence.
04:38There are no pool fences anywhere in this country.
04:41It is absolutely bizarre.
04:42There are lots of children and lots of pools and no pool fences.
04:44And I'm going to address that in a different video.
04:46Until then, any questions, hit the comments box.
04:48Follow for more.
04:49And thanks for watching.
04:50Bye!
04:51Bye-bye.
04:52Bye-bye.
