Detroit Lions play by play voice discusses how the Lions have improve since last season and how they can measure up against the Cowboys.

00:00Dan, is this Lions team better than last year's, and if so, how much better?
00:04It's not yet, and I think where it potentially will be better is defensively.
00:11They're starting to get their guys back.
00:13Their secondary is pretty much brand new, and you have one guy playing the same position
00:18he played last year.
00:19Brian Branch has moved to safety from nickel corner.
00:22You have new corners and a new nickel, and basically during camp, one of those guys was
00:28always hurt.
00:29They didn't get much time on tasks, so those guys need to play together and figure things
00:34out together, and that really hasn't happened yet.
00:36I mean, if you go back and look at that Seattle game where they gave up 500 runs, or excuse
00:40me, 500, I got tigers on my mind, 500 yards, pass, 500 yards, man, they were so close to
00:48getting to Geno Smith so many times, but hat tip to him, man, he played a heck of a game,
00:53so I think the defense is potentially where they become a better team than they were last
00:58year, and I think that's, I would even say likely, but it hasn't happened yet.
01:03It's got to gel.
01:04They've got to figure some things out.
01:05They're still really good against the run.
01:07They were good against the run last year, and that's really where it starts with them,
01:12but offensively, look, a lot of the same faces, a lot of the same explosiveness.
01:16It really hadn't come together before the Seattle game.
01:19You're hoping that it kind of takes off now, but to me, where they had to get better was
01:24defensively.
01:25I see the pieces there.
01:27They just got to figure it out.
