Cowboys/Browns: Star Up, Star Down

  • last week
A season-opening Cowboys blowout win leads to a lot more Star Ups than Star Downs. Shan & RJ go over all the positives from this first win of the season, including Micah Parsons taking an early lead in the DPOY conversation, how much the linebacking corps have improved since last year, and Brandon Aubrey nailing long field goals even if they didn't count.

00:00And I'm going to start with my big fat star up for Micah.
00:19I was all ready after the noon games to come in here and go, RJ, did you watch TJ Watt?
00:23Did you see how a couple of his game changing plays were even wiped out by penalty?
00:27And then Micah Parsons stopped me from doing that because he was an absolute game wrecker.
00:33Deshaun Watson while on the massage table, not even enjoying it last night because of
00:38visions of number 11.
00:41He had two early false starts that he calls on the Cleveland offensive line, then a sack.
00:46They put in a new right tackle and the Browns start throwing screens on third down, a third
00:52and 10 screen.
00:53There was another third and fourth screen.
00:55I think it was Shannon Sharpe saying they're paying Deshaun Watson $230 million guaranteed
01:00to run the football as well on third downs.
01:03And in my opinion, that was all because of Parsons.
01:07He's the one who tipped the football that led to the Kendricks interception.
01:10Kendricks, by the way, a weekly guest on the Gbag Nation.
01:15Micah Parsons had nine pressures yesterday, the most of any player in week one.
01:22And they kept flashing choppy.
01:23Bobby was at the game.
01:25They kept flashing where Micah is lining up, and I was happy to see I saw a big fat zero
01:30next to the linebacker part of the graphic.
01:34Only one time I noticed them like line up on third and then rush back into coverage
01:39to try to throw off Stefanski's offense.
01:42Micah Parsons, I thought, owned that football game.
01:45He gets the number one star.
01:46He was fantastic.
01:47Look, he was he is the favorite for defensive player of the year.
01:53Now, I don't know how they determine that, because every year, it could be about five
01:56guys every year.
01:58The same five guys could win this thing every single year, and it's almost like, oh, it's
02:01his turn now.
02:02Right?
02:03TJ's got one, and Bosa's got one, and you know what?
02:05Now it's Micah's turn for defensive player of the year.
02:08But he was tremendous, and that kind of plays into one of my star ups, which is a general.
02:13The defensive speed, I thought, really stood out, and it wasn't just Micah.
02:17From Overshawn to Kendricks or the guys in the secondary, either Deshaun Watson, again,
02:27forgot what an open man looks like, or the secondary completely blanketed every single
02:32Browns receiver here, because I thought the defensive speed really kind of popped on the
02:36screen.
