The Cowboys made some additions to their defensive line yesterday and this morning, trading for Giants DT Jordan Phillips and signing former Jets DE Carl Lawson. Bryan Broaddus is live in Oxnard at Cowboys camp, and he joined Shan & RJ to break down both signings as well as discuss practice with the Rams from yesterday.

00:00What do you think of these two acquisitions that the Cowboys have made?
00:18Which one do you want to talk about first?
00:19Let's hit the one that probably has the most immediate impact, Jordan Phillips.
00:24Yeah, Jordan Phillips, if you just watch the, and I tweeted this out last night, if you
00:28just watch the Buffalo game in Dallas last year, that's where the majority of his season
00:36was.
00:37There's really nothing you can get out of his time with the New York Giants.
00:39But he's got some initial quickness to him.
00:41He's a 320-pound guy.
00:44Very nimble-footed for a guy that big.
00:47Kind of has an idea of how to play these blocks.
00:49You know, I thought the one thing that he did was for a guy that big, he actually played
00:53with some range.
00:55Sometimes you see these guys and they get stuck along the line of scrimmage and really,
00:58really don't move.
00:59That's some of the problems you have, you know, with Mozzie at times.
01:02He just doesn't, he's not able to extend and then get down the line and make these plays.
01:07But you can line this guy up like on the opposite shoulder of the center.
01:10He did it to Bjotish like one time.
01:12It was really pretty.
01:13Where he lined up on the opposite, say, his left shoulder and then worked all the way
01:17back to his right shoulder.
01:19And Bjotish really, it attacked his snap hand.
01:21And so Bjotish really didn't have anything, an answer for that.
01:25So this guy's not going to stand still.
01:27He's going to fight blocks.
01:29He's going to stay active.
01:30He's kind of a thumper when he hits you.
01:33I mentioned about locating the ball.
01:35The double teams don't seem to move this guy very much.
01:38But he, you know, the three tapes I watched, Dallas, Kansas City, and Philadelphia.
01:45And just to kind of give you a little bit of idea, it's late in that Philadelphia game
01:49and they're trying to kill the game and they put him in there as a pass rusher.
01:53So you have a 320 pound guy, last 30 seconds in the game.
01:58They're using him.
01:59Usually they take those big old dudes off the field and put somebody else in there with
02:04some more quickness.
02:05But he was in there and I'll tell you what, it was impressive what he was able to do in
02:10the three games I watched.
02:11So it makes sense from the aspect that they don't have anybody right now here that plays
02:16as active and as big as this guy.
