00:00The importance of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement
00:03is proven by the relief operations carried out by the country.
00:07The United States is pleased with the relief operations carried out by the U.S. Marines,
00:11particularly in Batanes.
00:12This is what Patrick DeJesus reported.
00:17The MV-22B Osprey aircraft of the U.S. Marines also helped
00:22in bringing relief assistance to Batanes
00:25carried out by the Super Typhoon Hulian.
00:28On Tuesday, the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit
00:33of the Osprey Aircrafts arrived in the Philippines
00:36led by the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer.
00:40From the Lawag Airport, which served as the staging area for the relief items,
00:45the Osprey aircrafts flew to Batanes.
00:49Some of the relief items came from the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID.
01:01According to the AFP, the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement, or EDCA,
01:07is a major contribution by the Philippines and the U.S.
01:10which is also a part of the Humanitarian and Disaster Response.
01:14The operations and the exercises that we do are heavy not only on defense
01:21but also on humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
01:25The exercises that we do in Balikatan, in Lakniv exercises,
01:30this is the actual implementation, the actual incident that happened
01:35and you can see how we are using the training that we have conducted in real life.
01:45The Philippine Air Force also continued to assist
01:48by using their so-called helicopter to bring the additional relief items to Itbayat, Batanes
01:55along with the people from the DSWD
01:58who are the first in distributing cash assistance to those affected by the typhoon.
02:03Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines
02:08President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. contributed to the Self-Reliant Defense Posture Act.
02:14The law aims to strengthen the local production of various defense equipment
02:20for the protection of the Philippines.
02:23The AFP said, aside from the defense posture, it may also help the economy of the country.
02:29The AFP also believes in the ability of our fellow countrymen
02:34where non-government organizations, private sectors, and members of the academy
02:39can benefit from the implementation of the law.
02:42It will complement the comprehensive archipelagic defense concept.
02:45So, it's all-encompassing in terms of what it will help.
02:48Over and above that, it will also help our industries, local industries,
02:53to be part of national security as well.
02:56And over and above that,
02:59the effectiveness of this law will help the economy of our country.
03:04It will create more jobs.
