00:00Julianna Pena gets the job done in a decision victory over Raquel Pennington at UFC 307.
00:16And people can say what they want about decisions and all of that, but I will just say that
00:23for these particular rankings, the one thing that I like, I don't have a ton of rules,
00:29but one of the things is I can't just say, oh, well, I thought that person won, so they
00:32get it to go ahead in the rankings.
00:34Doesn't work that way.
00:35Win is a win.
00:36You did, while I may disagree with decisions or may disagree with whatever, the rules state
00:44that if you did enough for those three people to think you won, then you won, or at least
00:49two of them, then you won.
00:51So win is a win is kind of how we view this, although there is, you know, some context
00:55when you're helping out a little bit later.
00:57So at number 10, it is the loser of that bout, Raquel Pennington, as she drops from
01:01what was a top five spot, have to keep her in the back part of the top 10 because of
01:05the run that she had up to winning that championship.
01:08But she doesn't really have the big wins that get you a spot still in like the top five
01:15or even the top seven in the pound for pound after losing a championship.
01:20She like all the, most of the big names she's fought, she's kind of lost to.
01:23So I do think that she deserves still to be on this list, but I do think that 10 is a
01:30fine spot for her.
01:31Obviously.
01:32I think that I put her there.
01:33At number nine, Tatiana Suarez.
01:34And I know I just said wins and losses matter and just gave that whole thing.
01:38This is projecting a little bit because I, for a while, have felt that this was the most
01:42talented fighter in maybe even all of women's MMA.
01:46And she just cannot stay healthy and cannot get the fights and cannot get up to that level
01:51to finally validate her talents with a championship.
01:55But I still think she's really good and she still has a good resume.
01:59It's just spaced out a little bit.
02:01And so I have to have her at number nine.
02:04I have to have her on this list, but we can't have her higher.
02:06At eight and seven, a couple fighters are going to be fighting in Edmonton next month
02:09as it is Rose Namiunas taking on Erin Blanchfield in what should be a really fun fight.
02:15Namiunas is at eight, Blanchfield is at seven.
02:18They both have strings of very good victories.
02:21Blanchfield a little bit longer than Namiunas, I believe.
02:23But Rose, obviously, an incredible resume before that, so both of these fighters deserving
02:27to be on this list.
02:28At six, it's Alexa Grasso.
02:31She had a couple of wins over Valentina Shevchenko, or a win and a draw, anyway.
02:35It was a convincing enough loss to knock her out of the top spot and from the top spot
02:40down to six.
02:41So there is that.
02:43I do think she was at 1.7 and then the Pennington loss bumps her back up a little bit here.
02:48But it was still convincing enough and concerning enough that she's going to need a couple
02:52impressive wins to move back into the top five.
02:55A top five spot currently held by Yao Xiaonan, who comes in at five.
03:00Again, a lot of very impressive wins, and just ... these next couple are just very simple.
03:07Xiaonan and Fioro.
03:11Both of them maybe don't necessarily have the championship whatever yet, and in some
03:17cases championship losses.
03:18But it's still, again, it is a talent thing, and there are a lot of other wins that get
03:24you into these spots.
03:25So that's why they're at five and four for me.
03:26At three, it's Giuliana Pena.
03:28I talked some shit, I've never been overly impressed with this particular fighter, and
03:34then the way she goes about some other things, but that's ... now, two-time champion, which
03:40doesn't happen a whole lot, especially given the way that she lost to Amanda Nunes in that
03:45second bout.
03:46For her to get back to the top of the mountain now, regardless of situation, is impressive,
03:51and so she comes in at three.
03:52At two, it's Zhengwei Li, who has been just a wrecking machine, going through challenger
03:59after challenger after challenger, working her way into the top.
04:01So she comes in at two, but at number one, and this one, it's going to take a lot to
04:05change it.
04:06She is back on top of the mountain.
04:07Valentina Shevchenko gets her championship back earlier this summer in a win over Alexa
04:12Grasso.
04:13in the very tippy top, but Giuliana Pena, with a win at UFC 307, moves into the top
04:19three.
