00:00Into the UFC conversation we go now, and it is UFC 307 going down this weekend, as it
00:17is once again an opportunity to see one of the pound-for-pound greats of his time step
00:22into the octagon, as Alex Pereira, this time not in an effort to save a card or on short
00:28notice, gets a real actual training camp against a real actual opponent, kind of, as he faces
00:34Khalil Rowntree in the main event for the UFC's Light Heavyweight Championship.
00:38In the co-main event, it is Giuliano Pena taking on Raquel Pennington as they fight
00:43for gold as well.
00:44So let's get into the early storylines.
00:46We begin with Alex Pereira, who honestly, like, I hope he is taking Khalil Rowntree
00:52much more seriously than I am, because my first note is Pereira needs to stay focused.
00:57This is not the bright lights of UFC 300.
00:59This is not the bright lights of a Madison Square Garden show that he has come in last
01:06minute and saved.
01:07This isn't an international fight week that he is coming in and saving.
01:11This is just a regular-ass pay-per-view.
01:14It is a one-after-the-spear, it is all of these things, and it's against an opponent
01:19that is probably, like, one of the worst he has faced in the UFC, to be perfectly frank.
01:24So he needs to keep that focus, and not think about any of those things that I just said,
01:31and just walk into that cage on Saturday and take care of business.
01:34He needs to be able to keep that momentum going.
01:36And this is like a few of the boxing ones that we have done of this, where we are already
01:40looking at what is next.
01:41And I am continuing to bang that drum, hoping that what is next is an opportunity in the
01:47heavyweight division.
01:48This is a guy who, yes, there are probably a couple other fights who, uh, that he needs
01:53to take care of.
01:54At 205 pounds.
01:55Rakic, Madrimov, a couple of those sorts of things.
01:58But, this is someone who wants to go out and make history.
02:03And it's not like you have a heavyweight division that is beating down with contenders
02:06right now.
02:07You have two very old men, who haven't fought in a very long time, who will be fighting
02:11for your heavyweight champ- excuse me, championship, next month.
02:15After that, you have a young stud, who is knocking out every other contender on their
02:19way toward the heavyweight championship.
02:23So, I'm not saying Pereira needs to get a heavyweight title opportunity next, although,
02:27fun, um, I am saying that his next fight, I think, should be at 265 pounds.
02:31That is my personal belief.
02:33For Roundtree, he seems like a weird challenger.
02:36He had his last fight cancelled, because he tested positive for a banned substance.
02:42So the fight at UFC 303 gets pulled, and as punishment, he gets a championship opportunity.
02:48This is so weird.
02:50I was going to say, coming into this, that he feels like a mandatory challenger in boxing.
02:56But he doesn't even feel like that.
02:58Like, this is beyond the scope of what I think a mandatory challenger in boxing would get.
03:04Honestly, this is kicking it old school a little bit.
03:07This is like the old Pride Grand Prix's, where it's like, alright, well, it's the middleweight
03:10grand prix, we're not going to have the middleweight champion in.
03:13So he gets to face whoever, the 8th or 16th seat, or whatever they would do.
03:18So he goes in there against some absolutely poor sucker to just get obliterated.
03:23That is honestly what this feels like right now.
03:26And so this is, I think you can tell I'm not taking Roundtree overly seriously as a championship
03:32opposition.
03:33But Roundtree has an opportunity to pull off what would be the wildest upset in the history
03:39of the sport.
03:42I think this would definitely be bigger than home, Rousey.
03:45And it would be, like, up there with Sarah against GSP.
03:49When you consider that Pereira could be a triple champ by the time this year, by the
03:55time next year is done.
03:57Someone who is a champion in three different weight classes.
03:59Probably not at the same time.
04:00That would be tough.
04:01But someone who has at least made that kind of history.
04:04He is right now, pound for pound, on my pound for pound rankings, number two.
04:09And I think at worst you could put him third.
04:11He's on an absolute tear.
04:14His last win was against Anthony Smith, who we are just starting to, like, is he still
04:18good?
04:19Is he not?
04:20Not exactly a number one contender type of a fight.
04:23So Roundtree this weekend has a chance to shock the world in what I think would be the
04:26biggest upset in the history of the sport.
04:29Moving into the co-main event, also for a championship, as Giuliana Peña looks to get
04:32back the belt that she won for a second against Amanda Nunes.
04:35For Peña, it is put up or shut up.
04:37She has been trying to go the Chael Sonnen, Colby Covington, whatever route of being the
04:42trash talker and the, I'm going to play the heel.
04:45And she kind of sucks at it.
04:48And no one cares.
04:50And oh, Amanda Nunes is retiring because she's scared of me.
04:53No one believes that.
04:54No one's believing you.
04:56Not at all.
04:57And so yeah, you get a huge upset win over Amanda Nunes, congratulations.
04:59That is one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.
05:02Nunes came out after and kind of proved it was a fluke by whooping that ass for five
05:06rounds.
05:07Peña's three and two in her last five.
05:09If she wins this, then I'm not saying it validates everything and oh, well, Amanda
05:14Nunes was actually scared of her because I don't believe that for a second.
05:17And I don't believe that this validates Peña in being as good as she thinks she is.
05:22But it is a bit of validation, right?
05:23It's a two-time champion now, if she's able to pull that off.
05:26If she loses, I don't think she will be taken seriously ever again as a title challenger
05:31to be perfectly frank.
05:32For Raquel Pennington, it's kind of playing with house money.
05:35I don't think anyone thought she would have had this resurgence after Nunes lays down
05:41one of the most one-sided ass kickings in the history of the sport on Pennington back
05:46in 2018.
05:48She follows that up by losing weight and losing, er, missing weight, sorry, and losing to Jermaine
05:53Duran to me.
05:54To be able to bounce back and work her way into this opportunity to be a champion again
05:59is an unbelievable bounce back for Raquel Pennington and an unbelievable kind of final
06:05act to this career.
06:07So we will see what comes of this fight this weekend.
06:09I'm very intrigued by this one.
06:12Overall, this isn't the biggest card out there.
06:14This isn't UFC, er, Noche UFC.
06:17This isn't one of those.
06:18But you got a couple of intrigues, um, intriguing fights anyway, at the top of the card.
06:21Coming up tomorrow, we'll look at the non-main event fighters that you should pay attention
06:25to on this particular show.
