00:00Welcome, everyone, to Couch Potato Diary Part 2, a Fightin' Friday.
00:09My name is Peter Klein.
00:10Thank you very much for tuning in today.
00:12Yeah, the live stream broken up for Fights in Football Friday, now that I'm going to
00:16be on Sportsnet 960, The Fan, every Friday.
00:18So the fight portion comes out a little bit later on in the day, so that is what we are
00:23doing here.
00:24Doesn't mean it's going to be any less busy.
00:25We've got AEW Wrestle Dream to preview, which is entirely too long.
00:30We also have the big fight.
00:31It is B-Fall, it is Better Be-Ev, it is going to be amazing.
00:35We're going to be previewing that.
00:36And we've got fights to make coming out of UFC 307, and a couple picks for UFC Fight
00:41Night going down this weekend.
00:42So a lot to get into.
00:44Let's start with the pro wrestling stuff.
00:46Let's get into AEW Wrestle Dream predictions.
00:52Yes, Wrestle Dream going down this weekend from Tacoma, Washington, in the main event,
00:59it is Bryan Danielson putting his title and career on the line against Jon Moxley.
01:04But a lot to get to before we get to that.
01:08We will discuss this as it goes along, and it's something we have talked about a lot
01:11with AEW pay-per-views.
01:1211 matches on the main card is too much, and I don't know if someone at Wikipedia is just
01:18shitting with us with this thing, but holy fuck, man.
01:22This is, it's a lot, and it's one of those where, like, obvious, and look, like, a lot
01:27of times I would say, well, you could stack up some Dynamites and really make, like, must-see
01:30TV all the way through.
01:33It's not like Dynamites haven't been stacked lately, right?
01:36So there's just, there is a lot.
01:38It's probably too much, but we are probably going to come out of this card and be talking
01:43about AEW as the biggest wrestling show of, or one of the great wrestling shows of the
01:49year.
01:50So that's probably what's going to happen here.
01:51So let's get into it.
01:53We will start with the Ring of Honor television, or not television championship, just the Ring
01:56of Honor title on the line as Mark Briscoe defends against Chris Jericho.
02:01I joined a lot of people in saying that the Chris Jericho line about Jay Briscoe was too
02:09far, and it is something that you would hope that Chris Jericho was good enough that he
02:14wouldn't need to do in order to get any kind of heat or anything like that, but the Jericho
02:19Vortex hasn't really been going all that great for people, so I think that it just, it kind
02:24of wreaked desperation, and I didn't, I didn't think it was necessary.
02:28I didn't like it, and so it just, it was just a bit of like a, ugh, really?
02:34Really?
02:35This match is going to be interesting.
02:37It's not a match that I think a lot of people thought of in terms of, oh, well, who is Chris
02:42Jericho going to wrestle at some point in his career?
02:44Well, obviously Mark Briscoe, but I think this will be an interesting match.
02:47I think it'll be a whole lot of fun.
02:49It's good to get Mark Briscoe on a pay-per-view.
02:51I am interested that there has been, I feel like, maybe, and this is just anecdotally,
02:56it feels like there has been a little bit more Ring of Honor engagement in some stuff
03:00lately, and so I do wonder if that ends up being part of the new TV deals and all of
03:04those sorts of things, but I, I think Briscoe gets the win here.
03:09That's kind of where I think this ends up going.
03:11I think this is going to be a fun match, for sure.
03:13Darby Allin taking on Brody King.
03:15Just a singles match.
03:16Darby Allin venting his frustration about losing a championship opportunity, and now
03:20he faces Brody King.
03:22I think the way they got there was pretty good, where these guys kind of discussed like,
03:25yeah, I, we have a past, we know each other, and Brody King kind of being jealous of what
03:32Darby Allin has.
03:34I think that there's, I think they did a pretty good job of getting that one going
03:37pretty quick.
03:38I think this match is going to be incredibly physical, and it is going to be a match that
03:43I think really does get a lot of people's attention, and hopefully starts to elevate
03:48Brody King a little bit, because that is a project that I think AEW should maybe put
03:52a little bit more into.
03:54So I, honestly I don't know where they go with this one, because Darby feels like he
03:58should be above Brody right now, and like, you just, you see Darby, and he is just so
04:04unique from anything else that is in wrestling, and the entrance is amazing, and the crowd
04:09is behind him.
04:10I feel like there should be something with him, and if the main event goes kind of the
04:15way I think it's going to go, then I think Darby Allin should have a bit more momentum
04:19here.
04:20So I would have Darby pick up the win in this particular bout.
04:22Jack Perry against Katsuyori Shibata for the TNT Championship.
04:26This will be another one that is a good match, but I think this is another one that is just
04:29continuing to build up Jack Perry, and continues to make him feel like a big deal, and add
04:36another big name to his resume.
04:38So I think that's probably going to be the gist of it.
04:41And this is another thing, and this isn't a unique one so I'm not going to go too far
04:44into it, but too many titles in AEW, and I almost kind of hope that the way they combined
04:52three championships last year with, what was it, the Strong, the Ring of Honor, and
04:57the Continental Championship, I hope they do that again, but with the International,
05:01the TNT, and the Continental, and just combine it into one championship belt for AEW.
05:09Just one secondary championship for this company right now.
05:14But until then, we have an international title, and this is going to be ... I don't think
05:19you could have a more hyped match than Will Ospreay Ricochet and Konosuke Takeshita.
05:24This is a bout that I think a lot of people are really excited for.
05:29And Ospreay Ricochet, they get the screwy finish, and so it's a little disappointing
05:34because so many people have such a great memory of that bout from eight or nine years ago.
05:39The sport certainly has evolved since then, with a lot of guys doing a lot of things from
05:44that match, and so these guys need to find another level.
05:47And they didn't quite do that on Dynamite.
05:49Still an excellent match, but it was not the caliber that I think you thought these guys
05:53were going to get to.
05:54Adding a Takeshita in this, I think, is very intriguing, because he is a different style,
05:59but he is also a fantastic performer.
06:02And I think this is going to be such an incredible bout.
06:05I do think that Ospreay comes away from this one with a victory, but I can see this being
06:11one of the Match of the Year candidates.
06:13No questions asked.
06:14Tag team titles on the line.
06:15Young Bucks against Private Party.
06:17There's part of me that thinks they could do kind of a similar thing that they did with
06:21the Gun Club, where a team isn't over yet, but we're going to give them the titles and
06:24hope that that helps them get over.
06:26I hope that is not the case here.
06:27I hope that this is the first step for Private Party towards eventually a championship opportunity
06:34than just a, here, take the titles and go.
06:36Because that's not going to help them, I don't think, at all.
06:39They aren't ready to be champions yet, but I think that this will be a good spotlight
06:44moment for them and a good opportunity for them to show what they can do.
06:48But I don't think that this is a show that, right now, I don't think this is a situation
06:54where they need to be the tag team champions.
06:56So I would keep it on the Young Bucks.
06:58Mariah May against Willow.
06:59It gets set up with a fatal four-way win for Willow on Dynamite.
07:03This will be a good match, but I'm not really buying that Mariah May is going to lose right
07:08now.
07:09I think there is still a lot of story that is left with that one.
07:11But Willow, it's good to see her kind of staying in the championship picture or getting
07:15into the main championship picture right now.
07:18Hangman Adam Page.
07:19It is noteworthy, though, just to say.
07:2111 matches on this card and one of them is a women's match.
07:25Just putting that out there.
07:27Hangman Adam Page against Jay White.
07:30The Jay White return and response was actually a little surprising.
07:35It's not a character that I have felt like has clicked in AEW so far.
07:38But he leaves, he comes back, and all of a sudden he feels like kind of a big deal.
07:43I don't think he gets a win here against Hangman Page.
07:46I think the Hangman trajectory continues and I don't think you have him win a blood feud
07:52one week so that he can put over Jay White on pay-per-view at the next show.
07:57So I think Hangman gets a victory here and hopefully starts to progress his way up the
08:02card a little bit more.
08:04MXM Collection against The Acclaimed.
08:07I don't think this is a match that should be on pay-per-view.
08:09Again, this show, already 11 matches long.
08:13And so this popped up on the Wikipedia page.
08:15So if someone on Wikipedia is fucking with me on this, then you got me.
08:20Cool.
08:21Okay.
08:22But this is not a show that needs this match.
08:26This is not a match that needs to be on this show.
08:28Put it as a blood feud on Collision and call it a day.
08:30I will say The Acclaimed wins because everyone loves The Acclaimed.
08:34Two out of three falls for Hologram against Beastmortos.
08:39This match will be bananas, but again, this is not a show that needed two out of three
08:44falls for Hologram and Beastmortos.
08:47When you look at the talent and the matches that are going to be on here, I have no doubt
08:52that these two are going to put on an unbelievable show.
08:55But I worry that it could get lost in some of the other amazing things that are happening.
09:00I do understand, like at some point you do have to start elevating these guys and giving
09:04Brody Kings and Darby Allins and all of them a chance, but you should be able to elevate
09:08those guys and give them chances on an eight match pay-per-view card.
09:12You shouldn't need 11 matches to be able to elevate your talent.
09:15But I think that we probably get a Beastmortos win in this one.
09:21I know Hologram is a pet project for this company right now, but I would say with Mortos
09:26joining whatever the Jake Roberts N'Gobernables faction is going to be, I think that that
09:36is kind of the main thing for this right now, and so I think they end up getting the win.
09:41And then the main event.
09:42Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Heavyweight Championship.
09:46This match is just going to be unbelievable.
09:48I am so looking forward to it.
09:51Jon Moxley, his promos, I think he's probably the best promo in wrestling right now.
09:56I think it is just, it is so different, it is so unique, it is perfect for the character
10:01while still being real, while still, like, it's all, he just does it in a way that is
10:07perfect for every aspect that you would want from a pro wrestling promo.
10:12And as I've said before, that there is, I think, reasonable doubt that this is the final
10:19match of the full-time wrestler for Bryan Danielson.
10:23I think we do get Danielson coming back for spot things here and there, but I do think
10:27that there is going to be a title change here, and thus the end of the full-time wrestler
10:34Bryan Danielson.
10:35I think story-wise, it makes a ton of sense with Jon Moxley getting it to tie up their
10:39whole little loose end from a couple of years ago, and the start of the BCC, and building
10:45it up that way.
10:46And I think it being in Tacoma is good.
10:48I think that they kind of speed-ran a couple of these matches to get Okada and Danielson,
10:55and Danielson and Nigel McGuinness, and so I think it makes a whole lot of sense for
11:00this to be the end of the full-time run here for Danielson, and then have him come back
11:04in spot whatevers.
11:06And I do think that this is probably the unveiling of whatever it is Moxley is talking about.
11:11I know a lot of people are thinking that it would be Shane McMahon, or something along
11:15those lines, and this kind of NWO type of a thing.
11:21I think that that would be it, and so that's why I think early in the night it makes sense
11:25for Darby Allin to get his win, and now you have Jon Moxley, who is trying to take AEW
11:30back from whoever, and you have Darby Allin, who is talking about how important this place
11:37has been to him, and that feud kind of elevates us through the rest of the year, full year,
11:43and all of those sorts of things.
11:45So that's kind of how I view this whole thing playing out.
11:49But I do think it'll be interesting to see this show.
11:52Again, I worry it's too long, but I think that this has been a, overall, a pretty well-built
11:57show, and there's obviously a focus on getting a few more people over.
12:03It's just a matter of can they now.
12:05So it'll be interesting to see, but I'm looking forward to WrestleDream coming up
12:08this weekend.
12:09There is another big boxing fight happening out in Saudi Arabia.
12:13It is for, I said before, it could be the start of something very fun, and very beautiful,
12:20in the most violent of ways.
12:23It is B-Fall.
12:24It is Beterbiev.
12:27And it is this weekend.
12:29Let's break it down.
12:44One of the big fights of the year happens this weekend in Saudi Arabia, as Artur Beterbiev,
12:51he of the WBC, IBF, and WBO Light Heavyweight Championships, taking on WBA Light Heavyweight
12:58Champion Dmitry Bivol in a long-awaited fight to unify and make the Light Heavyweight Champion
13:07undisputed.
13:09So let's break it down.
13:12This is going to be an excellent fight.
13:13Neither fighter has lost in their career.
13:17There is very little separating them.
13:19And I think when you see the mauling power style that is Beterbiev, and the technical
13:27prowess of Bivol, it is very tempting to just say, oh, this is just puncher versus fighter,
13:33puncher versus boxer, let's see how this kind of plays out.
13:36And on the surface, it kind of is that.
13:39But I do think that Bivol has maybe a little bit more power than he gets credit for.
13:43And I do think that Beterbiev has significantly more technique than he gets credit for.
13:48And that's where this fight gets very interesting to me, is that, like, on the one hand, you
13:53have Beterbiev, who is just this guy with dynamite in his hands, and this unbelievable
14:01knockout artist.
14:03And on the other hand, you have the technical proficiency of Bivol, who was able to outpoint
14:08Canelo Alvarez en route to the biggest fight and win of his career.
14:15But at the same time, you have Bivol, who, like I said, has, like, he doesn't have a
14:19string of knockouts, he only has a few, but he does have power in his hands that just
14:23comes from being that size.
14:26And on the other hand, you have Beterbiev, who is a little bit more technical than people
14:31give him credit for, and can kind of fight that style as well.
14:34And I think it is going to be, the thing that I think plays out in this fight is who
14:40ends up having their plan B be the best one.
14:44And so that is why I keep going back and forth on this one.
14:46Because I think the plan B for Beterbiev is a little bit better than the plan B for Bivol.
14:52I do think that, if it just comes down to their, like, plan A's, I guess, I do think
14:56that Bivol can outclass, outclass sounds so dismissive.
15:03But can just be a step ahead, technically, of Beterbiev, and avoid all of those things.
15:08At the same time, I do think that, if it does turn into a technical fight, that Beterbiev
15:13can actually kind of hold his own a little bit.
15:16But then if we get into the knockout brawling stage of this, Beterbiev can handle that aspect
15:20of it a whole lot better than Bivol can, obviously.
15:24That gets into the strength.
15:25And so, I think if it gets more technical, Beterbiev has a better handle on that than
15:30if it turns into a brawl for Bivol.
15:31If that makes sense.
15:32I don't know if I explained that very well, but that's kind of where a lot of my thought
15:35process has been this week.
15:37And the other thing that has always concerned me about fights like this is, yes, Bivol is
15:41technically superior, I think.
15:44The issue, A, that doesn't just cancel out all the technique that Beterbiev has, but
15:48also, if you are going to fight that way, you have to be perfect for 12 rounds.
15:53And that is so hard to do when you have the pressure and the power of Beterbiev coming
15:58at you.
15:59It is a so, so much intriguing fight.
16:04At the end of the day, I have come down on the side of technique.
16:07I just think that Bivol is just that step ahead more when it comes to the technical
16:14acumen of the sport, and I think that is going to win out.
16:17This is not going to—I think, like, minus 140 is the number for Beterbiev—er, for
16:23Bivol, sorry.
16:24I think this is that close of a fight.
16:25I think that this is going to be right down to the wire, but I think when it comes down
16:30to being able to win rounds and doing those sorts of things, I think Bivol is going to
16:34be the one to get this done.
16:36So, I think Bivol gets the win, and I do think he wins by decision.
16:40Uh, yeah, uh, Deeds, the winner faces Beterbiev.
16:43Yeah, that's the way—Deeds in the chat, for those who are watching or listening, watching
16:49later or listening.
16:50Um, yeah, Beterbiev, uh, might be—might need a couple more fights to get into contention
16:56for these guys, but, um, he's had quite the run.
16:59Like, not—obviously not fighting recently, but just, like, the turnaround with his health
17:04and all that stuff, a DDP yoga, um, kind of, uh, inspirational story and whatnot.
17:10But, uh, yeah, no, I think this fight coming up this weekend is going to be just so incredibly
17:16fun, and I, like, I am hammering it down.
17:20I have to—I'm making the pick now, I'm making it official, I refuse to let myself waffle
17:24back and forth at any other point, um, but this is going to be a very intriguing bout
17:29coming up this weekend.
17:30We had a few good ones in the Ultimate Fighting Championship last weekend, um, we had UFC
17:36307 go down, new champion, one champion retains, so what's next for all the key fighters involved
17:43of UFC 307?
17:44Well, let's talk about it.
17:58UFC 307 is now behind us, so what's ahead of us?
18:02Well, let's look at the fights to make for the fighters coming off of UFC 307.
18:08In the main event, it was Alex Pereira with a fourth round victory over Khalil Rountree.
18:12What is the fight to make for Alex Pereira?
18:15It's not at 205, there is not a fight—and I get, like, um, at UFC 308, um, Rakic is
18:21fighting again, and the winner of that bout could have a claim to be the number one contender
18:26at 205 pounds.
18:27Don't care.
18:28Pereira wants to be great.
18:30Let him be great.
18:31Let him go for something in a third-weight class, unprecedented in the Ultimate Fighting
18:36Championship.
18:37Let him be that guy, and run out, and try to go from middleweight champion to light
18:43heavyweight champion to heavyweight champion, at least on an interim basis, for the first
18:49time in the sport's history, in such a short run.
18:54There isn't one fighter at 205 pounds who, I think right now, gives this guy any sort
19:01of a problem.
19:02It is just not where this division is at right now.
19:04He is so technically superior to everybody who he has fought, and if Israel Adesanya
19:10were to move up to 205, I think that the size difference there would just be too much for
19:14Izzy to overcome, and Pereira would go out and get that victory as well.
19:18So I just don't think that it is in the cards for, um, for anyone to come up here.
19:25So, let a new challenger arise, at 205 pounds, and maybe even give him a championship, and
19:31let Pereira go up and see if he can do it at the heavyweight division.
19:36In terms of the man he beat, Khalil Roundtree, while he did have a fight against Jamal Hill,
19:39it fell out because he tested positive for something, he being Roundtree.
19:44Let's do it.
19:45Let's run it back.
19:46We didn't see it before, so let's see it now.
19:47Roundtree against Jamal Hill, I think is just the easiest decision to make.
19:52I don't think you get a new number one contender out of it, given everything I just said about
19:56Pereira, but I do think that you get an interesting opportunity, and a big win for someone coming
20:02out of that fight.
20:04Moving on to the women's bantamweight division, a new champion crowned, Juliana Peña.
20:08Earlier in the night, it was Kayla Harrison picking up a win.
20:11Peña saying, ah, I didn't get to see her fight, but my team told me it was boring.
20:14So, the trash talk has already started.
20:16The only fight to make is a Kayla Harrison fight.
20:19They brought her in from the PFL, they have danced around with it, getting her a couple
20:23of wins, but it is now time to allow Kayla Harrison to fight for a UFC championship.
20:31I think she would be successful in that venture, but I think this is the only big fight you
20:35can make in this division right now.
20:38For Raquel Pennington, coming off of a championship loss, I have her against Macy Shayson.
20:42Shayson is coming off of a win at UFC 303, and is a top five fighter.
20:48So, I think that you can get another contender coming out of this fight, with Pennington
20:53having just lost the belt, or Shayson coming off of a big win over Bueno Silva.
20:59Allow her to build up more of that momentum, and move into the title picture.
21:03And then Katelyn Vieira, who lost to Kayla Harrison, I have her going up against Mayra
21:08Bueno Silva.
21:10Both have stumbled as of late, and lost in some pretty big moments, but I do think that
21:15now this would be a good win to get one of them back on track, and a, whew, the pressure
21:20is on for the loser of that fight.
21:22So those are the fights I would make, coming out of UFC 307.
21:25That's going to do it for the show, thank you all so much for tuning in.
21:28I do think that the fights and football thing, we're going to have to tweak it a little bit,
21:32and see, but it's a learning process, with everything going on with me over at 960.
21:36So, Deeds, thanks for hanging out in the chat, thank you so much, and thanks to everyone
21:41who tuned in here this week, I would like to get some live reaction stuff coming out
21:47for things, but also, I forgot the, sorry, I forgot my predictions for the UFC Fight
21:53Night card, coming up this weekend.
21:56Just quickly, just a couple ones, I think, ah, thank you, Deeds, I appreciate that.
22:00I have Roy Voll to win, he is an underdog, but I just, I think he's being under-looked
22:07a little bit, and I think, I scrub his name, Tero, I believe, or Tara, this is a real
22:17substantial step up in competition, and so I think that Roy Voll is a live dog, and I
22:21think Park beats Brad Tavares, I just, it's tough to, I think it's a finish, because Tavares
22:28has been finished so much lately, but he hasn't been submitted, and Park's strength is submission,
22:35and Tavares has been knocked out a lot, and Park isn't necessarily a knockout guy, so
22:38it's tough to think of how that would go, but I will take Park to win before the judges
22:43are needed, those would be my picks.
22:45But yes, Deeds, thank you so much for the congratulations on the Friday gig, and I do
22:49think it is going to expand a little bit more, not a ton, but a little bit more, so more
22:53adjustments will be made, for sure, but that's going to do it, there won't be any live reaction
22:58stuff this weekend, it's Thanksgiving, spending it with the family, and all of those sorts
23:02of things, so we'll be back next week, figuring out how all these puzzle pieces go together
23:06here on Couch Potato Diary.
23:08Have a great, great weekend, and a great Thanksgiving for all of us here in Canada.
