00:00The Sama-Sama Exercise 2024 in Zambales has already started.
00:04Six countries are involved in the so-called activity.
00:07This is what Patrick de Jesus reported.
00:11Compared to the previous years,
00:13the Sama-Sama Exercise 2024 will be bigger and wider
00:19between the Philippine Navy and the U.S. Navy
00:22along with other countries
00:24which are involved in maritime security and capability.
00:28The opening ceremony was held at the Naval Operating Base in Subic, Zambales.
00:33Six countries are involved in the Sama-Sama Exercise 2024
00:38including the Philippines, U.S., Japan, Canada, France, and Australia.
00:43The United Kingdom will serve as the observer.
00:46The ships of the countries involved will have a joint group sale.
00:54In the northern part of the country,
00:56the group sale will be held
00:58and various aerial assets will also be used.
01:01This will not exceed the 12 nautical miles territorial sea of the Philippines.
01:07For the Philippines, we're going to use our frigates.
01:13We have other patrol vessels to participate in this exercise
01:21and then of course we have the smaller ones.
01:25There are a lot of skills that we want to develop.
01:29The two-week exercise is focused on strengthening interoperability
01:35and it does not target one country
01:38amid geopolitical tensions in the region.
01:42The focus here is on interoperability,
01:45on building partner capacity and interoperability for security in the region.
01:51The intent of this exercise is not to ruffle feathers.
01:55It's tailored for interoperability.
01:58This is really about honing our skills.
02:01This has been going for decades already.
02:04So this is not new and it's not intended for any other purpose.
02:09The activities will be done first
02:12under the harbor phase of the Sama-Sama Exercise.
02:16Next is the sea phase,
02:17where the group sail and other naval drills are included.
02:22There is also a deployment from the US Marine Rotational Force Southeast Asia
02:28for the Sama-Sama Exercise
02:30which will also be included in the exercises next week.
02:34For now, the Philippine Air Force is helping the US Marines
02:40using their KC-130J aircraft
02:43to deliver relief assistance to Batanes
02:46hit by the Super Typhoon Hulian.
02:49What we've done is we've moved about 90,000 pounds
02:53to Loag Airport which is up in Northern Luzon.
02:57It will be staged there
02:58and then loaded onto MV-22 Osprey helicopters,
03:02tilt-rotor platforms
03:04from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
03:07They're coming off of the USS Boxer.
03:09The USS Boxer is en route.
