Two foreign men were fined RM5,000 each at a Magistrate's Court in Kota Tinggi after pleading guilty to wearing indecent clothes during a controversial running event in Pengerang.

Satyanarayana Prasad Papoli, 70, and Arthur Wang, 66, pleaded guilty after the charges were read to them before Magistrate Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar on Monday (Oct 7).

00:24The charges were read in Mandarin to Wong, who's Taiwanese, and in English to Indian
00:29national Satya Narayana.
00:31According to the charge sheets, both men were accused of committing an obscene act that
00:36caused disturbance to others in a public place by wearing indecent clothing.
00:41The act was committed near a hotel in Jalan Utama Jalan Desaru between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
00:47last Friday.
00:49The offence falls under Section 294 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment for
00:54a period up to three months or a fine or both upon conviction.
00:59In his defence, Wong, who is unemployed, said he was unfamiliar with Malaysian norms and
01:05had no intention to cause a public grievance.
01:08He also apologised to Malaysians and promised that he would not repeat the mistake.
01:13Meanwhile, Satya Narayana said it was not unusual for men to wear women's clothing during
01:20hash events.
01:22The former lawyer added that his intention was for doing charity and admitted his mistake.
01:28Both accused paid the fine, which was in default of one month's jail.
