00:00On 5 October we celebrate the National Neurology Day.
00:11The Italian Society of Neurology represents the main society of Italian neurologists and neurologists
00:19and has long considered it right to address the problems related to neurological diseases on this date.
00:28Neurological diseases are different, often underestimated, perhaps not always considered,
00:35and this is due to the fact that often the diagnoses are late.
00:39Through this day we want to raise awareness in the world of society,
00:45civil society, people, not only, but also colleagues, health workers,
00:51to be more aware of the fact that many conditions could be linked to a neurological condition.
01:03For example, sleep disorders are a condition that often needs a neurological assessment,
01:11as well as headaches and headaches.
01:14I remember that 1,200,000 Italians suffer from chronic hemicrania,
01:20but there are about 2 million Italians who suffer from severe insomnia.
01:26And this is alarming for all the consequences that these have,
01:30not only on the general health of people, but also on working ability, for example.
01:36We have more than a million people in Italy who suffer from cognitive decline.
01:40We have 300,000 people, and perhaps more, who suffer from Parkinson's disease.
01:47We have people with SLA, we have people with multiple sclerosis.
01:52Well, the neurologist deals with all these conditions, not only in hospitals, but also in the territory.
01:58And through National Day we want to raise public awareness
02:04about these diseases and the fact that it is necessary, without any fear,
02:11to go to the neurologist when something does not work properly.
02:17We have all experienced problems in the years of the pandemic,
02:23related, for example, to fatigue or the so-called brain fogging.
02:27Well, these are also manifestations that should alert people
02:32and look for an answer from the neurologist or the neurologists.
02:37However, I point out one thing to everyone,
02:39that the National Day of Neurology also wants to be a day of appropriateness.
02:47That is, we want people not to go to the emergency room when they have disorders
02:51that they may have had for a long time,
02:53to look for their own neurologist, perhaps the closest one.
02:57The Italian Society of Neurology has been very committed for a long time
03:02to create a community of very prepared neurologists.
03:07There is no doubt that the community of neurologists in Italy
03:10is certainly able to give answers, even in very short times,
03:16to all the requests and all the needs.
