This week’s Ofgem price cap increase will see energy prices rise by an average of 10 per cent plunging millions into fuel poverty and hardship. For pensioners and other vulnerable groups increases in energy costs will be nearer 15 per cent.
The governments cut to the Winter Fuel Allowance has made the situation even more desperate for many.

00:00Save our people out! Save our people out! Save our people out!
00:06We're here because there's a cut in winter fuel allowance and Ofgem are raising the price of the fuel cap.
00:15This is a double whammy that's going to really affect older people.
00:18It's going to cost lives this winter and we're protesting because we're against that.
00:24What are your demands for the government?
00:26Well, we want the big six energy companies to come into public ownership.
00:32We want better insulation.
00:37Excellent. And what about the support here in Portsmouth?
00:42Have many pensioners reached out to you expressing concerns about this?
00:46Well, you can see from the backdrop behind us that many people that we've not seen before have come out angry and are chanting.
00:54That's an indication of the support.
00:56And what about support from the local council, councillors?
01:00Well, I've been in contact with Councillor Steve Pitt and he's been very supportive.
01:04And in fact, I think he's developed a local policy to try and supplement the loss of income for older people.
01:12But he's in a position to explain that himself.
01:16Excellent. And any last messages you want to send out to the public or the government?
01:22Public ownership now.
