Matt Maher reflects on Unai Emery's pre-Bayern Munich press conference.
Transcript
00:00Good evening from Bodymore Heath where the headline news is it's actually stopped raining
00:06for the first time in about three days.
00:08Unai Emery's held his press conference ahead of tomorrow's big game against Bayern Munich,
00:14lots of talk of 1982, but the message clearly from both Unai Emery and Ollie Watkins is
00:21they want to write their own history, they obviously understand the story of Conor Villa's
00:27European Cup win and appreciate it, but this is very much about focusing on the here and
00:32now and playing Bayern Munich tomorrow night.
00:35In terms of injury news, well not great, Matty Cash is back in training but he's not going
00:39to be ready to play against Bayern tomorrow, so Villa defence that has been pretty leaky
00:43the last few weeks is probably going to be unchanged, Emery admitting that they're just
00:49conceding too many goals, obviously they've won six out of eight matches to start the
00:54season but I think the manager is aware that if they continue leaking the goals they are
01:00then eventually that run will end, so it's something they do need to work on.
01:04Watkins meanwhile took a bit of time to reflect on the journey, both his and Villa's journey
01:09over the last couple of years, it's not even two years since we lost 4-0 at Newcastle in
01:14the last game before Unai Emery walked through the door, they were hovering just above the
01:18relegation zone and Watkins admitting that occasions like tomorrow night just couldn't
01:23have been dreamed of back then.
01:26This is the first press conference today, there's another one at Villa Park in a couple
01:29of hours involving Bayern Munich where all eyes will be on whether Harry Kane is going
01:34to be fit enough to play tomorrow, he did train over in Germany earlier today, Bayern
01:39have flown over, Villa have just started training now, actually Emery's pushed back training,
01:46but obviously this is a huge fixture, one of the most highly anticipated games in years
01:52but Emery pointing out that Villa do play some of the best teams in Europe in the Premier
01:56League, they obviously beat Manchester City and Arsenal last season and very much the
02:02feeling that they can do it again tomorrow night against Bayern.
