00:00Google said on Tuesday its investments in Malaysia would create 26,500 jobs and contribute
00:12more than US$3 billion to its economy by 2030, as it announced its new data center and cloud
00:19region there had broken ground.
00:22I think what's exciting is Malaysia is so well positioned to benefit and capture this
00:28moment because of the inherent nature of what is here, a young and tech-savvy population,
00:35a favorable business environment in a very strategic location, and as the Prime Minister
00:40has demonstrated, a commitment to attracting tech investment and playing a leadership role,
00:47reflected, for example, in your significant and growing semiconductor industry and the
00:52national AI office that you're establishing later this year.
00:57The start of construction of the new $2 billion data center in Malaysia follows Monday's announcement
01:03of its multi-year partnership with local tech firm Dagang Nexchange Berhad to provide sovereign
01:09cloud services.
01:10Our investments are designed to provide high performance and reliability needed to meet
01:16the rising demand for cloud and AI services across the country.
01:21We also announced a series of local digital skilling and sustainability partnerships.
01:25I was proud to have time to speak with the Prime Minister about this.
01:28It is our commitment at Google to make sure that we're really building out a full ecosystem
01:34that meets the values and goals and mission of the Prime Minister.
01:38Google's moves are a part of a wider expansion by global tech companies into Southeast Asia,
01:43as they vie for a greater presence in a region with a young tech-savvy population of 670 million.
