00:00Jim Burke and I'm standing in Hopkins River Ward of Warrnambool City Council.
00:05I'd really like to achieve a few things but mostly what's prompted me is the need to continue
00:14the style of counselling we've had. In the past we've had some fairly disrupted
00:19councils who weren't achieving very much and they were taken over by this council at the last
00:25election. They've adopted a collegiate style that seems to have worked very well but some
00:31aren't standing and there was a need to fill up the spots with people who could work in that
00:36environment. I'd like to get some work going on the Ziegler Parade Bridge which has been left in
00:42limbo for several years now. It will be a long-term project because it will cost a lot of money
00:48but it's something we shouldn't lose sight of. I'm concerned at development in the city that
00:54it's being done on planned piecemeal. One example is the Briley Oval and Community Centre opposite
01:05two childcare centres. All of them on their own, good projects, together will change the nature of
01:14that precinct and do some real damage. I would also like to see the council maintain a high
01:22level interest in a homeless population of Warrnambool who are really suffering at the
01:26moment because social housing is extremely limited. That's not a council issue but there
01:32are other ways council can help the homeless. Thank you very much.
