00:00Let's meet the California-based Filipino boxer and one of the newest members of the Philippine boxing team, Tyler Tanap

00:09who has the potential to bring fame to the country.

00:12This is Paolo, thank you.

00:19Who would have thought that this Filipino kid from Oxnard, California, Tyler Tanap,

00:25had a plan to enter the world of boxing.

00:28Tanap started boxing when he was 4 years old,

00:31where his family has always been watching him.

00:35He was also the national champion and the former 8th division world champion,

00:40Manny Pacquiao.

00:41At the age of 8, this is where Tyler started to learn boxing.

00:45He was the first one to win the left and right competitions that he joined in Australia.

00:51Well, growing up, we always watched boxing.

00:54I was, of course, at that time when I was younger,

00:56Pacquiao was number one, so...

00:58And when I was a little kid, you know, he's Filipino and I'm Filipino,

01:02and that inspired me to be something like that.

01:05Because of his connection with his father,

01:07Tyler had the opportunity to try out for the Philippine boxing team in May of last year,

01:13where he immediately became a part of Kupunan.

01:17In the first international competition of Kupunan,

01:19Tyler immediately won the bronze medal in the boxing tournament of 2023 in Taiwan.

01:25Ani Tyler is also one of his dreams to represent the country,

01:30not only on the international stage, but also on the Olympic stage someday.

01:35That's been my number one goal since I was little.

01:38My number one goal, representing the Philippines at the Olympics.

01:41That's my number one goal.

01:42I feel a lot of, like, pride and, you know, joy that I'm representing the country and my heritage.

01:49For now, Tanap is back training with the members of the Philippine boxing team

01:54to prepare for the upcoming Asian Boxing Championships in November

01:59and Southeast Asian Games next year.
