00:00The Department of Energy continues to study the sustainable and safe use of nuclear energy for the production of electricity in the country.

00:09According to the Philippine Energy Plan and Working Nuclear Energy Program and Roadmap,

00:14the DOE plans to use nuclear power plants in 2032 and 2050.

00:21The DOE has also put in place regulations that have a law in place

00:27to form an Independent Nuclear Regulatory Commission

00:31to ensure that international conventions and treaties, safety and security considerations

00:39in accordance with the International Atomic Energy Agency or IAEA

00:45will be followed by the country.

00:47To ensure that it is in accordance with international standards,

00:51they must ratify or have a Senate concurrence on nuclear proliferation,

00:56safe uses, liability and compensation of plants.

01:00Meanwhile, according to the DOE,

01:02nuclear technology is currently being used but in a non-power application

01:07through the country's agriculture and health services.

01:12As President Marcos said and laid out in his State of the Nation Address,

01:20the government is currently visiting the possible role of nuclear energy in our energy transition.

01:29Under the Philippine Energy Plan 2023-2050,

01:34our role in the clean energy scenario is clear,

01:39to increase our renewable energy,

01:42and this role of nuclear will complement our renewable energy.
