Rahul Debates with Dr Zakir Naik on Various Concepts of Islam - Dr Zakir Naik
Transcript
00:00Thanks Dr. Zakir Naik, you are a big help. I have one more question. I am a bit confused
00:07between the two verses in Quran. The first one is in Surah Baqarah 62, which says that
00:15if you believe in one God and believe in the last day and do good deeds, you shall have
00:21nothing to fear on the day of judgment and you will get your reward with your Lord. Mind
00:27it, in this Surah, it doesn't say that you have to believe in the Prophet Muhammad, peace
00:32be upon him, as the last messenger. And there is also another Surah which supports this,
00:37which is the 22, in chapter number 22 and verse number 17 I think, in which it says
00:42a similar thing, that those who do, who believe in one God, who believe in the last day and
00:46who do good deeds, will be fine on the day of judgment. But then there is also one more
00:50verse in the Quran which says that whosoever amongst you comes to me without the religion
00:55of Islam, it shall not be accepted of him and he shall be among the losers. So, in that
01:01last verse, does Islam mean believing in one God and believing in Prophet Muhammad and
01:06believing in all the other rituals? Or, because Islam means submission, so whoever has submitted,
01:12yeah, is submitted. So, you know, what's the meaning of Islam in the last verse?
01:16That's a very good question. He's quoted the verse of the Quran of Surah Baqarah, chapter
01:20two, verse number 62, that all those who believe in Allah and believe in the last day,
01:25irrespective of whether they are Jews or Christians or Sabians, they shall have no fear and inshallah
01:33they will have their reward. Similar thing is repeated in Surah Maida, chapter number
01:37five. So, brother is asking that here the verse doesn't mention believing in Prophet.
01:43If you read the context of this revelation, brother, what happened, people came to the
01:46Prophet and said that we have been Jews, we have been Christians, we have been Sabians.
01:51Can God forgive us? In that context, the reply was given, as long as you believe in Allah
01:56and the last day, irrespectively previously, whether you're a Christian or a Jew or a Sabian,
02:02you will get the reward. It does not mean today, a person who says he's a Christian
02:06and who believes Jesus is God, he will go to Jannah. No, it does not mean that.
02:10Not Jesus is God, believes in one God.
02:12Believes in one God, but if they believe Jesus is God, then they won't go to Jannah.
02:15This is fine, but my point is, he believes in one true God.
02:18Correct. So, he has to believe in one true God and if he believes in true God, he'll
02:22also follow the commandment of God. Simple. Yeah, but maybe he's confused with that, yeah.
02:27So, that means he believes in a confused God. He believes in his creator, yeah, but he has
02:32not yet reached that level. So, then if you ask me the question, a person
02:35who truly believes in God and a little bit confused from his heart and yet doesn't believe
02:40in Prophet Muhammad, will he go to heaven or hell? That's your question.
02:42My question is, he's clear that there is one God.
02:44Clear there's one God. He's confused in the Prophethood.
02:47He does not do idol worship. He does not do that. He believes in one God
02:50and does good deeds and believes in the last day.
02:52Can he go to Jannah is your question? Yes.
02:54Fine. This answer, and I come to your last question
02:56also about that Islam is only way of life. Other verses talk about Prophet Muhammad peace
03:01be upon him. Yeah.
03:02So, if you truly believe, you have to believe in Prophet Muhammad.
03:04Yes. But if you ask me no, suppose I believe in
03:06God and if I die today. Yes.
03:09If you did good deeds, you believe in God. But I have two verses of the Quran supporting
03:13me that you believe in one God, you do good deeds and you believe in the last day, you
03:16shall have nothing to fear on that day. That's what I tell you.
03:19Yeah. Two verses, but the context of the verse is
03:21what? Yeah.
03:22The context of the verse is when people came to Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and they
03:26wanted to accept Islam, that previously we were Jews, we were Christians, then the verses
03:31say. The context is important.
03:33And coming back to your first question, that Quran says in Surah Al-Imran chapter 3 verse
03:37number 19, the only religion acceptable in the sight of Allah is submitting our will
03:44to God. Submitting.
03:45Submitting our will to God. And Quran also says in Surah Al-Imran chapter 3 verse 85,
03:49if anyone desires any other religion besides Islam, it will never be accepted of him and
03:54he shall be amongst the losers. So, now submitting our will to God means, first you have to find
04:00out which is the true God. Yes.
04:02And when you find out, you have to come to Allah.
04:04Yes. You can't say I believe in true God but is
04:06Jesus. I believe in true God.
04:08No, I believe in Allah. So, if you believe in Allah, you have to follow
04:12what is the commandment of Allah. Now, when you believe in Allah and if you don't come
04:18to commandment of Allah, that means it is not a true Allah.
04:20I believe Allah is not created by anyone. He is not born of anyone. He doesn't have
04:24kids. He, you know. Correct.
04:26I believe in that. Yeah, but that's where my state is.
04:33That's right. Now, that's not complete Islam. That's part
04:37of Islam. Part of Islam. Even believing in Prophet alone will not take you to Jannah.
04:42You may believe in one God, believe in Prophet but do bad deeds, you will not go to heaven.
04:46Fine? So, what you have to realize, if you believe
04:49that true God, when you know where you got those Kuluw Allah words, from where? From
04:54where you got these Kuluw Allah words? I got it from the Quran.
04:57From the Quran? Yes.
04:58So, from the Quran, you also get Surah Muhammad. That part agrees with my brain. That part
05:03agrees with my brain. Yeah, the rest, I have questions. So…
05:07What question you have asked me, I will try and…
05:08Right. So, on the Day of Judgment, I can tell you,
05:11I gave this brother, I tried to remove the misconception.
05:13Right, okay. Well, that's a little bit of a private question. I'll ask you through
05:17email. Okay, fine. No problem.
05:18One more question. The last question.
05:19So, when you ask from email, when you get convinced, that time I'll ask you to believe
05:22in Prophet Muhammad also. Sure, sure.
05:24Fine? Yeah, my last question is, we see this, the
05:28style of the Kalima, yeah, that La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah means there is no God
05:33but Allah and Muhammad is a messenger of God, yeah. Now, Islam has this distinct style.
05:39I have not seen this style in Christianity or Judaism, that kind of Kalima. Do I don't
05:44know, I mean, was there the same kind of Kalima in those two religions as well?
05:47No, no. You know why? Yeah.
05:49Because it says, there is no God but Allah. Yeah, it's similar, similar, similar in those
05:53lines. I'll tell you, and Prophet Muhammad is a
05:55messenger and servant, so no one should worship Prophet Muhammad, therefore it's mentioned
05:59there. Fine? Tomorrow people should not start worshipping Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon
06:03him. Yes, yes.
06:04We love him, we respect him, we revere him, we are ready to die for him, but we don't
06:08worship him. I understand. So, maybe in Christianity, they
06:10could have something like, there is only one God and Jesus, and Jesus, peace be upon him.
06:14Father, Son and Holy Ghost. No, but I'm talking about what Jesus told,
06:18not what Christians are telling today. At every time of the Prophet, it was, La ilaha
06:22illallah, that time, Isa or Rasulullah, no problem.
06:25It was, it was, that time. No, that is what people had to believe in,
06:28not in Arabic, in the language they spoke. No, what I'm saying is, from your study, from
06:31your study, have you found a Kalima like that in what Jesus would have said?
06:34No, not in Arabic. At every time, that, you had to believe in the Prophet to be a Muslim.
06:40Yeah. So, at that time, you have to believe in
06:41one God, and you had to believe Jesus was the Prophet of God.
06:44I understand. At the time of Moses, you had to believe
06:46that there is no God but Allah, and Moses was the Messenger of Allah.
06:49You had to believe in that. I understand, but did you see that reference?
06:52It is understood. There's no reference in the Quran.
06:54The Quran says they were messengers. It is understood.
06:57And if I don't believe in Jesus, now also I'm not a Muslim.
07:00Quran says you have to believe in each and every messenger today.
07:04So, believing that time was a must. And today, you have to believe in Musa
07:07a.s. and Isa a.s. You're asking the question, did you have to believe that time?
07:12Simple logic, yes. I know you have to believe at that time as
07:15well. What I'm saying is, why don't I see any
07:17kalima like that in today's Christianity or Judaism?
07:19Well, today's Christianity has changed Christianity.
07:21How about Judaism? It has changed, it has changed, brother.
07:24So, they removed the basic of the kalima? Of course, of course.
07:28They have changed the messenger to God. It is mentioned in the Bible today also
07:33that Jesus is not God. He never claimed divinity.
07:37He's a messenger of God. That's what the teaching of the church is.
07:40Yes. Today's form is the changed form.
07:43How about Judaism? They still believe there is only one God.
07:45They don't revile Moses as God. So, did you see a kalima like there is only
07:49one God and Musa a.s. No, but they believe that Musa a.s. was a
07:53messenger of God. They believe in that.
07:55At the same time, they even believe that he was an imposter.
07:59Jesus Christ peace be upon him. So, that's wrong.
08:01If you believe Jesus is an imposter, that is wrong.
08:04So, you find some of the other mistakes here or there.
08:07Therefore, Quran is the Furqan. Quran, Furqan means the criteria to judge
08:12right from wrong. So, whatever matches with the Quran, we
08:15agree it's the word of God. What is against the Quran contradicts, we
08:18say it's not the word of God. What doesn't contradict and doesn't match
08:21ambiguous, may be right, may be wrong. I understand your point, sir.
08:24What I'm saying is, did you see any reference in your study of Judaism?
08:27No. So, even the kalima is gone.
08:30I mean, they don't even have that. Maybe in Aramaic.
08:32Maybe it will be in Aramaic. I don't know.
08:34I don't know of any such. Right, right, right.
08:36So, they were still believing in this thing that you have to believe in Moses
08:40as messenger. Yes.
08:41But there is nothing concrete like la ilaha illallah or you know like.
08:44I don't know of any in the scripture. Right, right, okay, right, okay.
08:48Well, my last question is. Third last, fourth last.
08:51Just last, yeah. Last of the last.
08:53Just last. Last of the last.
08:54Last of the last, yes. Recently in India, it was in the news that
08:58same sex marriages got allowed, yeah. And on reading upon it, yeah, I found out
09:04that they said that it is at the genetic level of people,
09:07genetic, it's in the hormones, yeah, what they desire, what they
09:10don't desire. Now, I understand that Islam is completely
09:13against this, it doesn't allow this. But what I'm saying is if someone's got
09:16that at a genetic level, yeah, and it's his choice.
09:20Very good question. And he was born with that kind of tendency
09:24and yet Islam chooses to punish him on something that he was born with.
09:30Agreed. So, God should.
09:31It sounds illogical. Yeah, so God made him like that and God is
09:35punishing him for that as well. Brother asked a question that recently
09:40in India, homosexuality has been permitted. Not permitted, but the law says it's not a
09:45big crime that was there in the Indian constitution, they have softened it.
09:49Not permitted yet. Yes, yes.
09:50It is a court case that took place in Delhi, it's not a law yet.
09:52Yes. There's a who and cry yet, there are many
09:54organizations fighting against it. So, it's not a law, it's a law in Canada,
09:57in USA, in UK, not in India yet. Right, okay.
10:00And today, there are some scientific research that say that homosexuality is genetic.
10:06Yes, yes. So, the brother asked the question, if homosexuality
10:09is genetic, then who's to blame? How can you consider it to be a sin? Very good question.
10:15This research was done earlier, a few years back, and later on, what was found out that
10:20this is totally false. And the person who propounded this himself was homosexual.
10:25Right, okay. So, there's no scientific proof yet, it's
10:28an assumption. Right.
10:30Science doesn't testify yet that homosexuality is genetic.
10:33Right. In fact, Quran says, in Surah Araf, chapter
10:36number 7, verse number 81, which says that, do you have lust for men more in preference
10:43to women? So, homosexuality. Talking about Qaum-e-Lut,
10:46it is prohibited in the Bible, also talking about Lut, a.s., also in the Quran is prohibited.
10:51Yes. Homosexuality is prohibited completely.
10:53Right. It is an assumption that it's genetic, it's
10:55not genetic at all. How does it happen? I'll tell you.
10:59The psychologists, they tell us that once you overdo a thing, you start losing the pleasure.
11:04Right. So, what God has permitted the normal sexual
11:08way of life, you start overdoing it. You start doing unnatural things.
11:13Right. What God has permitted natural things, you
11:15do unnatural. You start doing from the reverse side. So, once you get fed up of doing it
11:20so often, that's the reason scientific research says a person who has no extra-marital affairs
11:27enjoys the sexual life with his wife and husband the maximum.
11:32Yeah, but this tendency is found in small children. I mean, you know, so I mean they
11:37have not got married yet. Let me complete.
11:40Yeah. I'll come to children later on, first I'm
11:42talking about the adults. Yes.
11:47How it comes in children, I'll tell you later. Okay.
11:51So what happens is that once you start overdoing it, you want to enjoy more. So, that thing
11:57what is normal doesn't excite you any longer. Then you start doing unnatural things. It's
12:01not genetic. Right.
12:02Talking about children. Yeah.
12:04How it comes in children. It doesn't just come out from birth. It's not from birth because
12:09they watch pornographic movies. Right.
12:11They watch blue films. It's haram. The parents, the way they behave in front of the children,
12:17all this has a psychologic impact on the child. Right.
12:21Don't tell a person who's born, then he starts becoming homosexual. It's not like that at
12:24all. It's a misconception. Right.
12:27Scientific research doesn't say that. Right, right, right.
12:29It is because of the overexposure. Now children watch the blue films. Yeah.
12:34The channels, free to air. You know, there are more pornographic channels than other
12:39channels. Yeah.
12:40Very good money. So because of the media, that's how when they see on the channel, they
12:45start emulating and that's how they divert. Who's to blame? The channel. Right.
12:51Why didn't the parent allow them? So they will be responsible for that.
12:54Right. OK. That answers me. That's fine. One thing you said was that God has to be logical,
13:02you said. Yeah. So why did God has to be logical? God is logical.
13:05God is logical. OK. So why did he choose taking into account Islam as a correct religion?
13:09Why did he choose to bring you into this world in Islam and so many others in a different
13:14religion? So that means he's being partial from the birth.
13:17Very good. Very good question. The question that some people are born in Muslim family
13:23and a person born in Muslim family chances Muslim, born in non-Muslim family, non-Muslim.
13:30So why is God impartial? Maybe if you were born in a Muslim family, you would have been
13:33a Muslim. Correct? Yes. That's how it usually goes.
13:37Very good question. The criteria to go to Jannah is not to be born in a Muslim family.
13:41Our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said, every child is born in Deen-ul-Fitr. He's
13:45born as a Muslim. He submits his will to God. Later on, he's been influenced by his parents,
13:50by his elders, by his teachers. Then he started doing idol worship, fire worship. He converts.
13:55Therefore when a non-Muslim becomes a Muslim, the more appropriate word is revert rather
13:59than convert. He comes back to the original faith. Now, the criteria to go to Jannah is
14:03not to be born in a Muslim family. The criteria to go to Jannah is Surah Al-Asr, Chapter 103,
14:08Verse 1-3, which says,
14:17that by the token of time, man is very in a state of loss, except those who have faith,
14:22those who have righteous deeds, those who exhort people to truth, and those who exhort
14:25people to patience and perseverance. The criteria to go to Jannah is all four things. Iman,
14:29righteous deeds, exhorting people to truth, exhorting people to patience and perseverance.
14:33If a person is born in a Muslim family, the first criteria, the chances are more. Yes.
14:38Not the remaining three. Yes. Fine? Now, you, you may be born in a righteous family,
14:43but not having Iman. I don't know. Yeah, but I mean, why was he born in a Christian family
14:46or a Hindu family? You know, he should be born, I mean, it's more likely that he gets
14:50the other things easily. There are four things to go to Jannah. If a person is born in a
14:54Muslim family, but does not have righteous deeds, does not do dawah, he'll go to hell.
14:59Yeah, okay. He will not go to heaven. Only by having a name, Zakir, Muhammad, Abdullah,
15:06Sultan, will not take you to heaven. Even practice is important. You may be born in
15:11a family which has righteous deeds, but may not be having Iman. So everyone has different
15:17combinations. But, Almighty God says in Surah Fusilat, chapter number 41, verse number 53,
15:23Soon we shall show them our signs in the furthest regions of the horizons and into
15:33their soul, until it is clear to them that this is the truth. So Allah takes it upon
15:37Himself that to every human being, He'll put in his heart directly that this is the truth.
15:43Like how God sent me to put it directly into your heart here. Yeah. Correct? Now, now,

18:02Are you a medical doctor? Yes or no?
18:03I am not. I am an engineer.
18:04Fine. I am a medical doctor. Fine?
18:05Okay.
18:06Now you are telling a doctor you have seen. If I tell you that I have seen a building made of paper, you know, come in Bombay, I have seen a building, the pillars were made of paper. Will you believe in it?
18:15I won't. I have not seen it.
18:16Go finish.
18:17Yeah.
18:18See, this is the first Ahalya Zikri in Kundalatalam. Ask the person who knows. Now I have seen, you have seen. Does it carry weight?
18:24Yeah.
18:25I have seen a building made of paper. Will you believe?
18:28No, but your point is that it's only because of media. But I know, I know…
18:31No, point is it is not genetic. There is no scientific proof at all it is genetic. I am telling you.
18:36Right, right.
18:37What I am telling you, it can be one of the reasons.
18:40Yeah.
18:41What is, there can be 20 other reasons.
18:42Right.
18:43One of the reasons can be media.
18:44Yeah.
18:45You tell me it can't be media, I will disprove you.
18:47Right, right, right.
18:48One of the reasons can be media.
18:49Right.
18:50Fine?
18:51Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:52Yeah, very good.
18:53Actually, I have to go through all the other questions I have on my mind.
18:55Very well. Go through.
18:56And I will need some time.
18:57But you can't.
18:58And then maybe in future I will do it.
18:59But, but, hope it's not too late. I don't know how long I am going to live.
19:04See, if I die in the state of getting more knowledge, yeah, then I can always tell God that I was just…
19:08No, no.
19:09I was just getting more and more knowledge.
19:10You cannot, you cannot. I am telling you, you cannot, you cannot.
19:13I will give shahada on the day of judgment. I give you a chance. You cannot.
19:16See, I don't know I am going to live tomorrow or not.
19:18See, 90% of my questions are answered.
19:20Alhamdulillah.
19:21But I have to go through more things.
19:22People accept Islam with 10% acceptance.
19:24Saw that girl? According to me, you have more knowledge than all the people who accept Islam.
19:28Yeah, that's true. Maybe that's true.
19:30But my principle is unless I am 100% clear, I will not take such a big step.
19:34I will only take that big step if I am 100% clear.
19:36Brother, many things you did in life without knowing 100%.
19:39Did you know how much you are going to earn in Dubai that you came here 100%?
19:42See, that way I am ready to say the thing.
19:45But, but the thing is I have seen some Muslims who say that if you have an iota of doubt, then you are not a Muslim.
19:52So…
19:53Who said that? Who said that?
19:54They say if you have…
19:55Are you going to follow the Quran or are you going to say some Muslim?
19:57Forget about Muslims.
19:58You want to judge?
19:59No, you have to believe it 100% even if you have 99% faith.
20:02Who said that? Who said that?
20:04Does the Quran say that?
20:05It doesn't say that.
20:06You follow Quran, don't follow the other Muslims.
20:08Don't follow Muslims, follow Quran.
20:10So if I tell you that I believe that Prophet Muhammad was a Prophet of God 90% and 10% I have doubts, am I a Muslim?
20:16See…
20:17You tell me that.
20:18No, do you believe in messenger or not a God?
20:20Other doubts are separate.
20:22I believe in one God and I believe in his messengers.
20:2490%
20:25I believe in his… Yes, 90%.
20:27Which 10% you don't believe? Tell me now, I'll clarify that.
20:29I can't recall those questions now.
20:31You can't recall?
20:32This is escapism.
20:34No, not really.
20:35I am not…
20:36I am true to my heart that I am not escaping.
20:37I am not asking you to accept Islam.
20:39I am not asking you.
20:40I am only telling you.
20:41If God forbid something happens to you before you accept Islam, you will not be forgiven.
20:46I am only telling you an advice.
20:48See, I am not being prejudiced here.
20:50Take your time.
20:51Take your time.
20:52When you need me, you can call me on the email.
20:54Zakir at IRF.net.

20:56How do you spell IRF?
20:57IRF.net
