00:00The election is just around the corner and the candidates are getting to know each other in the upcoming elections.
00:06But what should the people think and look at in their vote?
00:12What does it mean to be responsible in voting?
00:16That's what Professor Antonio Contreras will tell us from his point of view.

00:22Thank you very much and good morning to all of you in the studio.
00:33President Marcos has already announced the election of the new Philippines.
00:38On Tuesday, the filing of the Certificates of Candidacy for the National Candidates will start with the Senators.
00:47We are also hoping that there will be other groups, other parties, and other alliances that will be formed.
00:55As citizens, what are the elections and what should we do?
01:01Let us remember that we are a democracy and what we call democracy is representative democracy.
01:10In the past, when the state was small, what we call in political science are the Greek city-states.
01:17We have a direct democracy where all people join.
01:22Although not all, because those who do not own property do not join.
01:27But that's a different story.
01:28It's just limited to a few who have privileges.
01:32But there is a direct democracy.
01:34The bodies do not interfere.
01:37While the political community is growing, there is what we call representation.
01:43What we are electing now are our bodies.
01:47I repeat, bodies.
01:50Representative.
01:51So that means that what we should elect is what we believe will be our bodies.
01:59That we will be a part of the talks for the country.
02:05In Congress, in the Senate, or even in the local government units.
02:11As a body, its voice should be like ours.
02:16So what we should vote for is right.
02:20Tobi Tsiangko should not say that we should not look at liability.
02:26We should look at what the platform is, what he is fighting for.
02:30And we should match that to what our views are.
02:34This is what many Filipinos lack.
02:37To have an appreciation that what we remember is a body.
02:41And therefore, we should know what we want to happen in our lives that we should want to achieve.
02:47Because if we know that, we can match it.
02:51So who are the closest that approximates our interests to the candidates?
02:58It's like a dating game.
03:00We match what my views are about abortion, divorce, China.
03:07We look at it one by one.
03:09And if we look at what the record is.
03:12If he is an incumbent, what are his voting records?
03:15If he is not yet an incumbent, what are his statements in interviews, in campaigns?
03:21So that we match as much as possible that he approximates our interests because he is our representative.
03:28Let us not have the attitude that because he is handsome, because he gave us a ball in basketball.
03:36Because he built a road.
03:39Or because he is our countryman or artist.
03:44That's it.
03:45Or beautiful.
03:46That's what we will vote for.
03:48Let us remember that he is our body.
03:52So let us examine ourselves.
03:56Let us know what is important to us.
03:59And let us find out who among those candidates will lead us.
04:04He will be our voice in the government.
04:07Because he is the god of a representative democracy.
04:11Let us not waste our votes.
04:14That is our participation in politics, one of the most important elections.
04:19And every vote should be distributed to whoever should represent our interests.
04:28Let us not vote because a person will win.
04:31How can you win a candidate if you don't vote?
04:34Not because you will win because he is your body.
