00:00Hey, look who it is.
00:04We got him back again.
00:05Thank God, Cody Dagger from Mad Dog Radio on Sirius XM.
00:09He's a badass and his show kicks ass and takes names.
00:14I've always loved him and it's always a pleasure to have him on C2C to riff a little bit with
00:19us.
00:20So Cody, good to see you.
00:21I know you went to a wedding, your buddies, you got shafted on the food, you had to drink
00:26your way through it, St. Augustine, Florida, not ideal for you, but thank God you made
00:31it through it and I made it through Pittsburgh.
00:34I was sweating rum, hungover, two days hard, and here I am with you to talk baseball.
00:40It's the final week in a regular season.
00:42Who ends up with the best record in baseball?
00:45The Phillies, the Yankees, who's it going to be to get that bye?
00:50I've said from Jump Street, the Dodgers are the best team in baseball and I'm going to
00:54stand by it until the very last day.
00:56That doesn't mean they have the best pitching staff, doesn't even mean they have the best
00:59offense.
01:00There's something about this team collectively.
01:02You got Shohei, you got Mookie, you got Freddie, all three of those guys are healthy.
01:05You got Max Muncy back and you got a semblance of their pitching staff back, relatively healthy.
01:09I do think the Dodgers are going to end up being the best team in the game.
01:12I think they're gonna end up with that bye and I strongly think it's not a good thing.
01:16So far, we've seen the bye, what, for two, three seasons so far and it hasn't garnered
01:20the results that I think Major League Baseball truly wants.
01:22I think the idea of parody is great, but to this point, the bye has been a punishment
01:26for the best teams in Major League Baseball.
01:29What is your opinion of this guy, Otani, in terms of what you've played with and seen
01:38in your career?
01:39Like, there are guys, I won't deny that he's a badass and he's brilliant.
01:44I won't deny the guy can hit to the moon and can pitch and can do everything.
01:49He's a phenomena.
01:51I mean, the guy is literally a freak, but, you know, when I was covering the Pirates
01:58in the 80s, Barry Bonds was that player.
02:03He was a 20, 20, then a 30, 30, then a 40, 40.
02:06And then when he went to San Francisco, he started juicing and lied about it, obviously,
02:11like everyone else.
02:13But I have never, I don't care if he juiced or if he drank cow milk, that guy, he could
02:19hit a fastball better than anyone I've ever seen in my life, including Otani.
02:23And I'm going to say this, I've seen better base stealers in my life.
02:28I think Otani is incredible.
02:30He had 50-50.
02:31That's incredible.
02:32But, I mean, that guy, literally, like Lou Brock, Ricky Henderson, they were both better
02:37than him.
02:38Stealing bases.
02:39I don't care what anybody says.
02:40No question.
02:41Well, Ricky Henderson is in a class of his own.
02:43I mean, famously, Ricky Henderson called Harold Reynolds the one year that Ricky got hurt
02:47because Harold Reynolds ended up winning the stolen base record that year.
02:50And he called him and said, hey, how many did you get this year?
02:52And he said, I think I had like 63.
02:54Oh, Ricky would have had that at the break.
02:56Ricky was in his own category when it comes to stealing bases.
02:59But you're not wrong.
03:00I mean, listen, Barry Bonds, I've had the luxury of hitting with Barry Bonds and working
03:04out with Barry Bonds.
03:06And I love Barry Bonds as a kid that grew up a Dodger fan in Los Angeles who I hated
03:09him my entire lifetime.
03:11And then getting to know him off the field, dude, he's he's one of one.
03:14But, dude, I got to say, Otani is when I say one of one of one of one is just it's
03:20a different thing.
03:21This is a year where Otani supposed to be injured.
03:23And during his injured year, decided to go off and do something that's never happened
03:27in 150 years of Major League Baseball.
03:29I hear what you're saying about about the Barry Bonds of the world.
03:32But I'm telling you, of all the people I played against, and I have played against Otani,
03:36Mike Trout is one of those guys where I'm like, that's guys not playing the same sport
03:39as me.
03:40Otani might be playing a different sport than everyone put together.
03:43This was supposed to be a down year for Shohei Otani.
03:46And I was telling everybody to fade him when it came to the MVP at the beginning of the
03:49season, because at no point are they ever going to give an MVP to a National League
03:52D.H. He's going to have to do something that's never happened.
03:55Did it?
03:56Well, he did it.
03:57Yeah, he did it.
03:59So is it the Yankees or the field, which contains the Astros seven straight pennant series?
04:08They're like the Chiefs in football.
04:11They go every year to the ALCS come hell or high water.
04:15But everyone and their brother in sports books and on media, and certainly everyone here
04:19in New York City is stupid enough to fall for the Yankees every single year since before
04:26Christ.
04:27I mean, in New York, every single year, the Yankees either win the World Series or it's
04:32a lousy year.
04:34Yes, it's exactly that.
04:36And being in New York right now, I'm having to deal and mitigate all of these really sad
04:41Yankee fans.
04:42And if they lose one game, oh, we're awful.
04:44Brian Cashman should be fired.
04:46These people are insane.
04:47I can't stress this enough.
04:48They're the best record in the American League.
04:51Do I think they're going to the World Series?
04:52I did have them as a pick.
04:53Remember what I mentioned about that by of all the American League teams getting that
04:57by the team, I think would be the worst with that by is the Yankees.
05:00They're a team that is very predicated on the long ball.
05:02You got the judges, you got to John Carlos Stanton's and the Juan Soto's of the world.
05:05That doesn't mean one doesn't get on base.
05:07He does.
05:08But if you're a team that's predicated on offense, specifically taking your offense
05:11and putting them down for five days and putting them on ice.
05:14I don't like that.
05:15And I really don't like it for the Yankees.
05:17Now, I'm going to look at the field.
05:19I did take a flyer begin at the beginning of the season of a 1981 Dodger Yankee World
05:23Series.
05:24And a part of that is my heart.
05:25I want to see it.
05:26That's what I really want to see so badly.
05:28But dude, if you're giving me the field, I'm going to take the field because there are
05:31some teams in here that are very interesting.
05:33The Cleveland Guardians are criminally under discussed.
05:35They just are.
05:36And they're without Shane Bieber.
05:37And they're doing this.
05:38The Houston Astros.
05:39Like you said, they've been an albatross and just the devil to the Yankees for years and
05:43years and years.
05:44Not to mention everybody in the AL West.
05:46The teams I think we should look out for, believe it or not, the Detroit Tigers.
05:50And here's why.
05:51The Detroit Tigers are hot.
05:52And when it comes to October, it's not the best teams that win the World Series.
05:55It's the hottest teams.
05:56That's how we got the Texas Rangers.
05:57That's how we got the Arizona Dimebacks last year.
05:59And right now, no one's hotter than the Detroit Tigers.
06:01They are now holding on to that second wildcard spot.
06:04They can hold on for dear life for these next six days.
06:06Who knows what this team does in October.
06:08But another team that does worry me, if they sneak in, and there's only one reason.
06:13Because this team is allergic to offense.
06:14I can't stress this enough.
06:15The Seattle Mariners are terrible at hitting baseballs.
06:18But this team can pitch baseballs better than everybody in the American League.
06:21If they get into October with those young arms, I'm really scared for everyone that
06:25faces them.
06:26They got a week to catch up two games.
06:30And I'm sorry.
06:31You know, I guess the Royals could blow it because they haven't been playing well.
06:35Tigers have been playing great.
06:36Twins got swept by the Red Sox.
06:38I want to ask you about the Mets because I wouldn't want to play them either.
06:41Now I know that the Padres and Dimebacks have been great, but the Mets win a lot.
06:49They do.
06:50And if they get Kodai Senga back and they keep this kind of good feeling going.
06:53We saw it last year, dude.
06:54The Mets, it's not out of the realm of possibility.
06:57They weren't even supposed to be here.
06:58This is already a victory of a season.
07:00They're planning for next year.
07:01This team is not going to be going anywhere for years and years and years to come.
