00:00What do you think about artificial intelligence?
00:04We often hear that artificial intelligence is something dangerous,
00:09it causes problems, it is good to be afraid,
00:13and in reality it is not entirely irrational to be afraid.
00:18Every technology that we have developed inevitably has generated transformations
00:23and the transformations are worrying.
00:25Having said that, there must be reasonable concerns,
00:29based on knowledge and facts.
00:31Many of the stories we hear around will steal the job, destroy the world,
00:36it will be such an intelligent intelligence
00:39that it will turn us into its companion animals.
00:44These are concerns from science fiction movies, horror movies,
00:49which are not only silly, but also distracting.
00:52This means that we do not worry about real problems.
00:55The important problems generated by artificial intelligence
00:58are those of such a powerful technology,
01:00to multiply issues that unfortunately we already had in our hands,
01:04such as privacy, or social injustice,
01:07the so-called bias, that is, discrimination.
01:10These are problems that, it is not that the other day we did not have,
01:13but that artificial intelligence multiplies and distributes alarmingly.
01:18What can we do?
01:20In general, we only worry about the use by the so-called end user,
01:25of those who are at the end of the chain.
01:27And it is right.
01:29To make a mistake in using this artificial intelligence
01:32for things that are not important or that should not be done
01:35is our individual responsibility.
01:37We would miss it.
01:39The important thing, however, is to have a concern
01:42for both the source and the distribution of these extraordinary technologies.
01:46So, both in the construction of these instruments,
01:49both in their distribution and in their regulation,
01:52there is a lot to do.
01:54We can conclude by saying that in Europe we have already done something.
01:58It is happening a little all over the world.
02:00Regulation is not only European,
02:02but we hear about the so-called AI Act.
02:05The AI Act is the first such inclusive regulation.
02:09It is a good, improvable regulation.
02:12Many steps can be taken forward,
02:14but in the meantime the first step has been taken.
02:16The consequence is that all over the world now know
02:19how things are done in Europe.
02:21We have a lesson to teach, not so much,
02:23but we can, as they say in English,
02:26lead by example,
02:28that is, be the first to do things well.
02:31To show, in short, how this artificial intelligence
02:33can be used both in favor of society and in favor of the environment.
02:37To transform artificial intelligence from what could be a problem
02:40to what is part of the solution is feasible.
02:44It is up to society and politics to make this happen.
02:47To conclude,
02:49this technology today is creating enormous market potential
02:54and does what the market does well, it creates wealth.
02:58What the market and all technologies and innovations do wrong
03:02is the distribution of wealth
03:05and doing good to society and the environment
03:08while creating and distributing wealth.
03:11These other steps are not up to the market to take care of them.
03:14It is up to society and politics.
03:16A more informed society,
03:18which knows what it wants, which has a good project,
03:20is the society in which artificial intelligence will be able to give its best.
03:24Without this, one cannot complain
03:27if artificial intelligence will do more harm than good.
