00:00BAT Italy, the leading company in the wide-use goods of the tobacco industry,
00:09presented to the G7 of Agriculture and Fishing in the Syracuse program
00:13its new project that aims to make the tobacco industry more sustainable.
00:18WePlant will be an innovative project that, thanks to a data-driven approach,
00:23the use of satellite data and advanced apps,
00:26will allow to transform the management of crops,
00:29improving water efficiency and reducing the use of chemicals,
00:33thus contributing to a more precise and sustainable agriculture.
00:38WePlant is a highly innovative project,
00:41which involves the application of artificial intelligence on a large scale,
00:45and it is the first time that this is done in tobacco farming.
00:49Thanks to an algorithm of proprietary artificial intelligence
00:53and to the analysis of satellite data on the one hand,
00:56but also to the analysis of data released by tobacco farmers
01:00through the digitization of country notebooks,
01:04it is possible to optimize precious resources for the planet,
01:08such as water or other elements that could be harmful if not controlled,
01:14such as fertilizers and pesticides.
01:17WePlant is another step for our Better Tomorrow.
01:22It aims to minimize the impact of our activities on the communities we work in.
01:28For Italy, this is the first application on a large scale
01:31of artificial intelligence algorithms in tobacco farming,
01:35with the potential to optimize water and chemical resources.
01:39Our excellent farmers in Veneto, for the Italian Virginia Bright,
01:45always need to have cutting-edge technological supports,
01:50and therefore the ability to have an app that will allow us in the future
01:54to know in a very short time if in our hectares we need to have more or less water
02:03and therefore to save it in a very short time is fundamental for us.
02:08The project was made possible thanks to BAT Italia, which is its promoter.
02:12Just On Earth, an Italian startup specializing in the development of AI algorithms
02:18for the analysis of satellite data, the organization of NewTab producers
02:23and the agronomic department of Deltafina,
02:26a leading company in the market for the first transformation of tobacco in Italy.
02:31It is an ambitious project that aims to realize an application
02:36that can be used by all farmers, with the only goal of providing sustainability
02:43both in terms of water consumption and in terms of improving the use of health products,
02:49because in this way we reach the goal of reducing the waste of natural resources.
