The cost of living crisis has caused many people to turn to crime who perhaps would rather not, with some supermarkets now locking away baby formula and personal hygiene products to prevent them from being stolen.
With that in mind, we went to talk to the people on the street about what they feel towards these shoplifters.

00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World. Today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about shoplifting.
00:04Now the reason for that is a lot more people have had to turn to shoplifting as a way of supporting themselves or their family through the difficult cost of living crisis.
00:11In some cases, supermarkets have even taken to locking up baby formula because it's been so often stolen.
00:17People seem to focus on those who shoplift in the way of like, I don't know, like gambling, rush of adrenaline.
00:23In reality, most people are shoplifting because they have no other choice.
00:26People are like shoplifting, they've got a pretty good reason to do that. Like if they're stealing like food or whatever.
00:33So like I used to work in like a clothes shop or something like that, so that was a bit less like, little less sympathy there.
00:38If they're stealing like a grand's worth of clothes, but if it's just like baby formula and stuff like that, it's clearly like a bigger issue there.
00:45I've seen security tags on things like baby food, junkies and like sanitary products.
00:49And I just think that it's kind of disgraceful that we need it because they're not luxury items, they're bare necessities and they should be in food banks or available to people who can't necessarily afford them.
