There's been a rise in shoplifting in recent years, coinciding with the cost of living crisis. Do you have any sympathy for those forced to turn to theft, or should they face the full force of the law? If you saw someone shoplifting, would you step in or turn a blind eye?

00:00I do have sympathy with them, because there are people that can't afford the basic necessities
00:05of life. We've seen the increase in energy prices. Well, it's all to do with, you know,
00:09the cost of living crisis. People are in dire straits. I'm not condoning it and giving them
00:15free reign to say, yeah, go out and go shoplifting. But what I am saying is, I think we have to
00:20have a bit of empathy for these people.
00:22No, none whatsoever.
00:24Can you tell me why?
00:28Very often you'll find that they're doing it just for drugs. Very often. So the percentage
00:36of the people that are doing it because they're desperate to eat are much smaller than the
00:41majority. So, no, I've got no sympathy.
00:46In other words, the cost of living crisis has got out of control, really. I mean, with
00:51the prices of energy as it is, it's small wonder that people are turning aground. The
00:56thing is, we have to bear in mind what they're stealing, what a lot of people are stealing
00:58quite often is food.
