00:00Hey, this is Paul from Pink Shift, we're on tour with Gaslight Anthem and Joyce Manor.
00:16We're in Chicago today playing Salt Shed and I'm going to run you through some of the gear
00:21that we're using specifically on this run.
00:24So, this is one of the guitars I brought on this tour.
00:28The main one I've used since the fall of 2022, it's pretty much the main one that I use on
00:36tour.
00:37It's very light, it's an Epiphone SG.
00:40Picked it up for pretty cheap at Guitar Center, it's got a little dinged up.
00:45Yeah, so pretty much I have the neck pickup turned off for the whole set.
00:51This is dialed down to zero and the tone knob, well I guess this tone knob is virtually useless
00:56for this one since it's off, but the tone knob for the bridge pickup is all up to 10
01:01and volume is up to 10 and I kind of use this switch that I just replaced.
01:07These are like the single coil humbucker, you can switch them by pushing up on these
01:13pots, but I switched them because I don't really use the single coil feature.
01:18So I just kind of turn it off when I don't need to use it, flip it down for when it's
01:24time to play, and just kind of like do little kill switch effects on certain songs.
01:32There's this company called Chipsin that makes this funny little thing, my name is Paul so
01:39I was like, oh, why not use less Paul, more Paul when I play.
01:43Yeah, so Mikey, who's playing guitar for us, put me onto the D'Addario XL, or XS actually,
01:5310-52s, XS, because my hands are really sweaty, so this keeps me from not having to change
01:59them every few shows, but usually every five to six shows I try to give them a little restring.
02:06And I have the Schaller strap locks on pretty much all my guitars,
02:13they're pretty sick, really easy to just slide in and off.
02:19And I got a little Ellis Dunes bandana that is just like really cute,
02:22I threw it on when we toured with them last year, I just put it on and I was like, damn.
02:27And yeah, this is a little wireless pack, I use a Shure GLXD-16, I think is the model
02:35for the wireless system that I use.
02:38So this guitar is tuned to drop C sharp, so it's the backup guitar,
02:43but some songs we play are in drop B, so my pedalboard has a little pitch shifter that I use,
02:49so I didn't bring too many guitars on this one.
02:52So yeah, either drop C sharp or drop B for this tour.
02:56So just got this flight case earlier this year, it's from Quantum Industries,
03:00it's actually a bass case, because we were flying to Europe and we needed
03:04something to put our guitars in, in a pinch, so Zach from Quantum Industries hooked us up with
03:10a nice little discount on this Quantum Industries bass flight case.
03:16And in here we got like little pouches, store some of the guitar
03:24tools whenever we're in a pinch.
03:27In here it's got, oh here's the Shure wireless system,
03:32it's all little tools to make sure we're ready to go for the show.
03:36So this is the backup guitar,
03:38it is also an Epiphone SG, it's an Epiphone SG400, I'm not sure from what year it is,
03:45but it's the first SG I got from like a yard sale,
03:50and it made me fall in love with SG's just when I got the gold one, not too long after.
03:55But yeah, this one is a little different, I think, I don't actually know like which of these are
04:05I don't actually know like which of these knobs go to these pickups, but it's the same deal,
04:11where everything's turned up to 10, I'm just solely on the neck, sorry the bridge pickup,
04:17and yeah, this one does not have Schaller actually, it's my one guitar, I lie, it's my
04:23one guitar that doesn't have Schaller strap locks, but yeah, also tuned to drop C sharp,
04:28a little bit heavy because it's got more electronics in it, and I guess, I don't know,
04:34maybe it came from a smoker's home, who knows, but this is the backup that we thankfully have
04:39not had to use yet. So this is our little motherboard case, this is the IEC cable to
04:46connect to it. So recently, last year, I switched over to a Baud Cortex before I had like a whole
04:54digital system, ran into an EVH head, a 5150, but because this tour is, we're playing big stages,
05:05my little cab is not really needed, so I ditched the cab and the power amp just for this tour,
05:11and I'm just bringing the Quad Cortex. I have a Mission Engineering expression pedal and a
05:18Polytune Mini, and a little Altoids bass, my picks. Specifically, I use the 2mm
05:26Perney Ball Prodigies. This, I don't know why I have it. So for this run, I actually just
05:33updated it to the 3.0 thing where you can use like plugins, so I actually am just running
05:40the Gojira plugin for the dirty sound, and for the clean sound, I think I'm using like
05:49their Vendor Deluxe Reverb, like sim of that, and just switching between those two,
05:59and then using like the Gojira Pitch Shifter, the compressor, just kind of like
06:04sprinkling in little things here and there for that.
06:10On the bottom, I gotta figure out a better way to like dismount it,
06:16but on the back, because I've like kind of downsized,
06:23I try to hide a lot of my stuff under there, so I have a Strymon Zuma that when I was running
06:29like my eight analog pedals, this was like perfect for it, and in order to power the
06:36Quad though, you can't plug the Quad straight into this, so I was like trying to find a little thing
06:40to make that run without having to have like two power supplies, so I run the Chox Crux
06:48out of the Strymon. You can like chain the Zuma to like the Oji and other little power supplies,
06:57so instead of chaining it to an Oji, I don't think that's how you say it, but I plug it into the
07:05Crux, and the Crux goes into the Quad, so when I use the IEC cable for the Strymon, everything
07:09powers up nice and easy. Oh, this is the Shure receiver. I had to like, it doesn't just mount
07:17under the pedal train, this is like an old version, so I like kind of cut a little piece of wood
07:23to like have it sit like perfectly, and just velcroed the hell out of it, but clearly it's
07:30not working, so I gotta figure that out, and oh, this is a little junction box that a buddy of
07:36mine made for me. It's just like, there's no electronics in it, it's just a convenient thing
07:42to have all the pedals go in and out. I don't really use it to its fullest extent right now,
07:46just because it's, you know, the Quad has direct line out, but when I was running like the four
07:51cable method with the EVH, this was perfect for it. So for this tour, we have like a few different
07:58presets for different songs, but one thing that's pretty standard is I have this expression pedal
08:05that doubles as a volume pedal and a wah pedal, so when I turn it on, it's automatically sent to
08:11like volume expression, so I use that for swells and stuff, and I inverted the like the wah,
08:19like the engage switch, so when I click it, it turns into a wah, and I can just kind of like
08:25play around with that for solos or any other like textural things, and if I click it back again,
08:31it turns back into a volume. So it took me like a few minutes to figure out,
08:38but aside from that, because on my old pedal board, I had both a wah and a volume pedal,
08:44so I was like trying to get a way to include that in this like digital rig,
08:49because you can't really have multiple expression pedals with the Quad. Maybe you can.
08:53And so that's pretty much standard for every preset for each song, and the way I have my tones kind of
09:05lined up is I have like, if I'm playing like a rhythm part during a song, I got this bottom
09:12left one, it's easy to reach rhythm, then I engage like a little overdrive and a volume boost for leads,
09:21then a little bit more volume for solos here, and for some songs, I want like the same like solo
09:29tone with just like a lot of reverb on there, and I just tune that up here, or I switch to
09:35H on there, so everything's pretty much just on this lower row, like rhythm, lead, solo, and then
09:42solo with verb, and then for some songs, we use a clean tone, and that's usually like up here,
09:50but that's pretty much it for each song, and I have a pitch shifter engaged, like a pitch shifter
09:57button, which is one of these two, depending on the song, but that pretty much takes us
10:05through the whole set for this run specifically. We got a little loop station and a NUX like foot
10:11switch, so for some songs, so this is actually our first tour with Mikey and Kirby joining us,
10:18so before, I was on guitar, and either Mikey or Kirby would be playing bass, so I got this
10:24little rig to put the rhythm guitar tracks on here, and I would trigger them myself, so Mara
10:31would like count us off, and he's playing to a metronome in his ear, and I would trigger this
10:39so that the rhythm guitar tracks would come up with us, and pretty much also have like little
10:44samples in there. On Suruksha, our EP that we put out last year, we have some like Indian folk
10:52instruments that are layered in the songs, so we tried to bring that to our live show too, so we
10:57just kind of loaded that onto here too, so we're not using rhythm guitar tracks anymore, so we got
11:01a full five-piece band, but we do have like synths and pads, don, tabla, layered into certain songs,
11:11and yeah, I made this little plywood board, so we'll call it,
11:19daisy chained into the one spot. I have to find a better way to do this, because when you fly
11:25through TSA, and they open your bag, and they see this, it is not the, for someone that doesn't know
11:33what this is, they see the wires and things on a plywood, and they're like,
11:39they're like, that's awesome, so this might have to change soon. Yeah, thanks for watching this
11:45video, and checking out the gear, just gonna play in Pinkshift, Pinkshift MD on all socials,
11:53and keep an eye out for early 2025, we're gearing up to release some songs soon,
12:01and potentially a tour in the first half of 2025, so keep an eye out on that.
