Some impressions from our recent visit to Taipei.

What started as a layover on our way to Bali turned into a memorable 2-night stay in Taipei. With a nonstop flight on China Airlines landing at 5:10am, we figured—why not explore the city for a couple of days before continuing to Bali?

With just 2 full days, we decided to hire a private guide and driver, which turned out to be the best decision. If you're short on time, it's a game-changer. Highly recommended!

Some other useful (I hope!) tips...

Transport from the airport to Taipei (and return):
While you can grab a cab or hire a driver, the MRT Airport Express is a far better option. It gets you to Taipei Main Station in just 38 minutes, compared to the longer cab ride. And at around $6.50, it’s a bargain! Once you’re at the station, simply take an Uber, cab, or arrange for the hotel to pick you up.

Hotel:
The Regent Taipei is a great 5-star hotel. It has a luxury "Galleria" on its lowest level, a rooftop pool with amazing city views, a spa and great restaurants. And book the Tai Pan Club, it makes a big difference.

Other than that ... amazing food, and if you like street food, make sure to visit one of the night markets! And we can highly recommend a trip to Jiufen.
